Patient Access Representative - Emergency Department (Evening Shift) Schedule: 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM or 5:00 PM - 1:30 AM (occasional overnights preferred) Employment Type: Contract Job Description We are seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Patient Access Representative to join our Emergency Department team. This fast-paced role is ideal for individuals who thrive in dynamic environments and are passionate about helping patients navigate their healthcare journey. Key Responsibilities * Perform patient registration and basic insurance verification, ensuring accurate collection of critical data for billing and identification. * Update patient demographic information in the ADT system per departmental policies. * Interpret physician orders to determine appropriate testing or admission criteria. * Coordinate patient admissions and bed assignments for timely placement. * Identify out-of-network insurance plans and communicate options to patients and providers. * Obtain and validate insurance information via EMR or eligibility tools. * Provide courteous and accurate information and wayfinding assistance to patients, families, and visitors. * Prepare and scan documents into electronic patient records. * Explain forms and processes to patients, ensuring proper signatures and documentation. * Assemble/disassemble patient charts and departmental documents. * Copy and fax documents to ancillary departments or physician offices. * Maintain inventory of forms and supplies. * Assist with resolving patient account balances. Qualifications * Exceptional customer service and communication skills. * Comfortable working in an Emergency Room setting (may encounter blood, injuries, etc.). * Ability to stand and walk for 10-12 hours per shift. * Comfortable navigating a hospital environment and interacting with RNs and patients. * Ability to read and interpret medical terminology and physician orders. * Proficiency with Epic and Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Teams). * Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a high-pressure environment.
