Position Highlights

The Department of Systems & Industrial Engineering is seeking an instructor for two courses: SIE 277 Object Oriented Modeling and Design; SIE 377 Software for Engineers. These courses are offered every Fall and Spring semester and are taken by industrial engineering, systems engineering, and engineering management students as well as other students in the college of engineering who wish to take it as a technical elective.

The instructor will prepare lecture materials, student assessments (quizzes, home work assignments, exams, projects, etc.), deliver lectures at the University of Arizona Main Campus, and provide flexible learning options for online students or students who wish to participate in the class remotely.


The ideal candidate will have academic and/or industry experience in software development and object oriented modeling.

Duties & Responsibilities

Teach one section of SIE 277 Object Oriented Modeling and one section of SIE 377 Software for Engineers

  • Prepare and deliver
    instructional materials and guide/lead class activities three times per
    week every Fall and Spring semester at the University of Arizona Main
    Campus in Tucson, AZ.
  • Ensure successful delivery
    of the course's learning objectives through the creation and dissemination
    of students assessments (e.g., quizzes, homework, exams, projects, etc.)
  • Establish and adhere to
    grading rubrics to ensure students understand grading expectations.
  • Provide timely feedback to
    students on their submitted assignments.
  • Collaborate with Teaching
    Assistant or grader to ensure uniform evaluation of student work.
  • Maintain course materials
    in the University's chosen Learning Management System that is optimized
    for on-campus and remote students.
  • Work with instructional
    designer to optimize course materials using Quality Matters standards for
    online learning.
  • Support student learning in
    multiple modalities including in person, remote synchronous, and remote
    asynchronous.
  • Gather and report ABET
    learning outcomes to department.
  • Assist in the professional
    development of students as they transition from academia into careers or
    graduate school.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Subject matter mastery in
    software engineering and object oriented modeling.
  • Command of Learning
    Management System (D2L/Brightspace).
  • Ability to provide students
    with feedback on assignments, projects, and exams.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an
    engineering or closely related discipline and 5 years of experience as an
    engineering professional in one or more industrial organizations; OR
    Master's degree in an engineering or closely related discipline.
