Job Summary

This position description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. The University Tower Surgery and Endoscopy Suite delivers patient care through provision and management of capital, supplies, instrumentation, and technological support as well as human resources in collaboration with medical and para-medical staff to effectively manage patients undergoing elective, urgent, and emergent interventional pulmonary procedures, gastrointestinal endoscopic interventions, as well as supporting procedures in surgery that fall within scope of practice. This position is responsible for assisting with patient care in close working relationships with the endoscopic, pulmonary, and surgical teams.

Under supervision, the position provides technical support to the University Tower Surgical and Endoscopic Suite patients care that includes, but is not limited to, quality control and maintenance of safe and functioning equipment and instrumentation, subject matter expert in the clinical setting for Integrated UTSES video routing and display, lights, cameras, C-arms, PACS, Vitals, Ultrasound and all other video and data sources, high level disinfection machinery/equipment, microscope, lasers, ultrasounds, ultrasound probs, liquid nitrogen therapy equipment, solid state manometry, PH/manometry capsule placement, capsule endoscopy equipment, robotic equipment, and other complex medical devices and systems.

The service areas include, but not limited to, the GI Adult and Pediatric Endoscopy, Interventional Pulmonary, and off the floor in ICU, SICU, MSICU, CTICU, Radiology, IR, Burn Unit, Transfer Unit, Children Surgery Center, OR (Pavilion 3), OR (UTSS), Emergency Department.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required within 6 months of hire: SGNA Associates Program SGNA Advanced Associates Program Laser Safety Certification Robotic Surgery Certification Anesthesia equipment training is required within 6 months of hire. OR Equipment training is required within 6 months of hire.
  • No minimum education required
  • 1 year of experience in a GI Endoscopy as a GI Technician, assisting in endoscopic procedures.
  • I. Endoscopy Unit Equipment Specialists: Level I (one):
  • * Meets the competency requirements of GI Endoscopy Technician Level III position descriptions
  • * Demonstrates advanced knowledge application of the care in Gastro Enterology and Interventional Pulmonary. * Demonstrates advanced knowledge in preparation and hands on assisting physician in routine and advanced Adult/Pediatric Gastro Enterology and Interventional Pulmonary cases.
  • * Demonstrates advanced knowledge of Scope High Level Disinfection and Scope culturing for GI, IP, and OR (UTSES) per UC Davis guidelines
  • Demonstrates advance knowledge of all GI, IP, OR Robotic Surgery
  • Demonstrates advance knowledge of GI, IP, OR (UTSES) equipment and ability to run and troubleshoot.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of different PPE requirements for different type of procedures/chemicals handling.
  • Demonstrate ability to work under pressure with physician during emergent situations and offer ideas and possible solutions that can potentially bring positive outcome for the patient.
  • Demonstrates the ability and set up, troubleshoot, and turn over anesthesia equipment
  • Demonstrates responsible behavior as a health care professional. * Demonstrates knowledge and practice of basic patient-care concepts
  • Demonstrate proper communications skills and ability to work with supervisor creating trainings on old/new equipment/instruments to keep physicians, fellows, registered nurses, technicians up to date on new equipment, and UTSES equipment competencies.
  • Assist physicians with the use of procedural robotic equipment to include set-up, use, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide technical assistance across a broad range of pediatric & adult endoscopic and interventional pulmonary procedures.

Work Environment
