Overview:

CONNECT is a network of pediatric centers striving to improve outcomes for children with high-risk brain tumors. The Operations center at Nationwide Children's Hospital is looking to fill a position for Scientific Writer. This position will collaborate with clinicians, scientists, and operations colleagues to develop clinical trial protocols, as well effectively communicate ideas into grant applications for potential funding opportunities. This role will be responsible for documents maintained in accordance with federal and institutional regulatory requirements and internal policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scientific writing and research, with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously. Self-starters who enjoy new challenges will excel in this role.

Job Description:

Essential Functions:
  • Researches and writes scientific articles for publication.
  • Edits and proofreads scientific content to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • Collaborates with scientists and researchers to gather information for writing projects.
  • Reviews and synthesizes complex scientific data into understandable language.
  • Follows industry guidelines and standards for scientific writing.
  • Manages multiple writing projects and meets deadlines effectively.

Education Requirement:
A bachelor's in Communication, English, Journalism, Public Relations or related field required.

Skills:
  • Must have excellent written (editing and proofreading) skills.
  • Must possess interpersonal skills with an ability to maintain good rapport with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Must possess the ability to work on multiple projects at once in a professional matter, setting production schedules and meeting all deadlines.
  • Must have basic print production understanding to create timelines, negotiate prices and interact with design and printing staff.
  • Medical or technical writing background is beneficial to this position.
  • Computer skills - basic understanding and use programs including e-mail, word, excel and powerpoint.
  • Must be able to think strategically and provide marketing counsel to answer requests from throughout the institution to be included in publications and mailings.
