About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Transportation Planner to join our growing team in Seattle.

You'll lead complex transportation planning and environmental compliance efforts for major capital projects. This role is central to shaping high-speed rail infrastructure through interdisciplinary collaboration, strategic planning, and coordination with public agencies and stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage large, multidisciplinary transportation planning and environmental compliance projects.
  • Develop and analyze environmental documentation in accordance with NEPA and CEQA (or CEAA) requirements.
  • Build and sustain client relationships through active participation in marketing, contract negotiations, design discussions, and production meetings.
  • Supervise and coordinate teams in preparing planning studies, technical reports, and environmental documents.
  • Guide public engagement efforts, facilitate agency coordination, and support transportation programming activities.
  • Collaborate in interdisciplinary design development and contract documentation sessions.
  • Oversee staffing and workload distribution throughout the project lifecycle to ensure timely delivery of documents.
  • Perform additional planning-related tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in transportation planning, with a focus on major infrastructure/transit capital projects.
  • Strong understanding of transit planning principles and NEPA/CEQA (or CEAA) processes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and teams.
  • Proven ability to coordinate with agencies having jurisdiction (cities, counties, state/federal regulatory agencies).
  • Experience collaborating across disciplines such as environmental, engineering, operations, and planning.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on high-speed rail projects
  • Experience in evaluating alternatives for capital projects using criteria such as ridership forecasting, environmental constraints, community input, and technical feasibility.
  • Experience developing and informing effective public and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Experience with greenfield route identification for passenger rail or similar linear infrastructure planning, particularly in contexts without host railroads.
  • Familiarity with pre-NEPA planning and project scoping.
  • Knowledge of FRA regulations

Compensation Information: Base salary for this position is in the range of $140,000-$190,000+.

Compensation is determined by factors such as education, experience, location, and role. As employee-owners, we are eligible for performance-based bonuses and our salaries are reviewed annually. Our compensation structure prioritizes transparency and internal pay equity.
