LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTION, RIVERBEND MAXIMUM SECURITY INSTITUTION, DAVIDSON COUNTY A Motor Vehicle Records screening and pre-employment drug screen are required prior to employment. This is an on-site position. This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be considered for this position. Qualifications Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and experience equivalent to one year of full-time work in a state or federal adult correctional facility.
Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying state or federal adult correctional institutional experience may substitute for the required education to a maximum of four years (e.g., experience equivalent to one year of full-time work in a state or federal correctional facility may substitute for one year of the required education). Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants for this class must: 1. Have a good moral character, as determined by investigation. 2. Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority. 3. Agree to release all records involving their criminal history by the appointing authority. 4. Supply a fingerprint sample in a manner prescribed by the TBI for a fingerprint-based criminal history check. 5. Submit to and pass a pre-employment screening test for illegal drugs. 6. Upon appointment, successfully complete a prescribed course of instruction at the Tennessee Correctional Academy. Overview An employee in this class monitors the performance of employees in all operational areas at a correctional institution and their compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Work involves receiving, interpreting, and distributing new departmental policies and directives, conducting on-site audits of operational areas, and serving on institutional boards and committees. Responsibilities 1. Conduct periodic reviews or on-site audits to insure that compliance procedures are followed as required by reviewing files, computer information, and reports to verify staff adherence to requirements for offender reporting, programming, record keeping, and personnel management processes as required by legal codes, TDOC policies, and procedures. 2. Provide required monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on the facility's progress in meeting their goals and objectives as determined by TDOC policies and procedures or internal/external audits. Initiate and participate in the development of any corrective actions required in response to audit results. 3. Identify compliance issues that require follow-up or investigation by gathering and organizing information to identify problems with processes or procedures. Accurately determine the critical and non-critical elements of a process or project and gathers information to meet the project's priorities. 4. Conduct or direct internal investigations of compliance issues as required by code, TDOC policies, and procedures, when authorized. Maintain documentation of compliance activities, such as complaints received or investigation outcomes as required by code, TDOC policies, and procedures. 5. Maintain files, reports, and records for daily operations, personnel, and administration as required by code, TDOC policies, and procedures. 6. Develop and format institutional policies in accordance with TDOC policies, procedures, and the legal codes governing them. Conducts annual review of institutional forms and policies to determine which should be discarded, modified, or continued for use as required by TDOC policies and procedures. 7. Provide additional oversight and compliance monitoring for the DOJ Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards by maintaining audit files for each standard, attending PREA meetings, disseminating new or revised PREA rules, and providing training and support to staff to develop working knowledge of the expected practices for PREA. 8. Create and/or maintain files in accordance with the American Correctional Association (ACA) standards by gathering documentation from each department on a quarterly basis. Conduct mock audits of ACA files to determine level of compliance with each standard and provide training and support for staff to develop working knowledge of each area's standards/expected practices for ACA.
