Job Summary

Milwaukee Recreation is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and energetic leader to assist in managing the district's Twilight Centers. Twilight Centers provide Milwaukee's teens and families with safe places to go for positive, supervised activities and special events during evenings and on weekends. Primary responsibilities include personnel management, executing events, site supervision, program/event development, staff evaluation, recruitment, training, and participant support and outreach.

The ideal candidate has a deep investment in the Milwaukee community, relationship building, and a vision for making Milwaukee Recreation's Twilight program a game-changer in meeting the needs of Milwaukee's youth and families.

Salary Range: $64,538 - $92,688

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management, Sports Administration, Social Work, Education, or related field. May substitute 2 years of experience for 1 year of education.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of full-time professional work experience in youth development, consisting of planning and implementing social and recreational programs for a diverse group of youth. Experience working with youth in an urban environment is preferred.
  • Certified first aid and CPR/AED or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire date
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred
Responsibilities

  • Develops and manages the operation of programming at the three Twilight locations to include: youth/adult recreation learning activities, special events, and community center programming. Works to incorporate new and innovative activities to keep program participation at optimal levels.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates part-time staff.
  • Completes all necessary paperwork, including payroll, attendance, evaluations, and seasonal reports.
  • Conducts regular site visits (evenings and weekends) to determine program effectiveness and to provide evaluation feedback, and to support the part-time staff.
  • Facilitates the procurement of equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinates and communicates changes in facility scheduling for program activities.
  • Establishes and enforces the standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, and time.
  • Assists in preparing, coordinating, and distributing promotional materials for program activities within the community.
  • Manages program area customer surveys, assists in the interpretation of data, and supervises changes in programming based on customer feedback.
  • Establishes partnerships with other MPS departments, governmental units, and community-based organizations to enhance the Twilight program development and service delivery.
  • Assists with Milwaukee Recreation Department events and activities as needed.
  • Serves on various community or department committees as required and/or assigned.
  • Actively supports the MPS Five Priorities for Success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
