Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-orientedGenetic Counselor Assistant (GCA)to join our Cancer Genetics team. The GCA will work closely with board-certified genetic counselors, physicians, and clinical staff to support the delivery of high-quality genetic services to individuals and families at increased risk for hereditary cancer syndromes. This role is ideal for candidates pursuing a future in genetic counseling or related healthcare field. The GCA will work in a clinical outpatient office environment with the option of a hybrid work schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Coordination and Clinical Support:
    • Communicate with patients to obtain family and medical history information before visits.
    • Create and update patient pedigrees using Progeny software
    • Prepare charts and collect medical documentation (e.g., pathology reports, family pedigrees).
  • Administrative Tasks:
    • Manage genetic testing paperwork and consent forms.
    • Coordinate with laboratories to track test orders, shipments, and results.
    • Upload genetic test results into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and notify appropriate staff.
    • Maintain accurate records for internal tracking, research registries, or quality improvement initiatives.
  • Education and Outreach:
    • Assist in developing patient education materials and clinic handouts.
    • Support community or provider outreach efforts related to hereditary cancer awareness.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Associate's Degree in a medical or scientific field required. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A
  3. Experience: N/A
