Post Bachelors' Graduate - Modeling & Simulation Professional

Location: Collaborative Computing Center, Idaho National Laboratory

Schedule: 9-80's with every other Friday off

Program Duration: 12 months, with a potential 1-year extension.

Position Overview: Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a recent bachelor's graduate for our Talent Bridge program, designed to transition individuals from academic study to career readiness. The selected candidate will perform testing of models, simulations, and associated visualization using existing, emerging or newly created technologies. They will apply extensive expertise in application of mathematics, statistics, logic, and computer programming languages in the design, development, optimization, and testing of models that approximate physical entities or processes.

Responsibilities:



  • Apply principles, theories, and concepts to develop, deploy, and support innovative technical solutions to
    mobile, embedded, desktop, web-based and hosted capabilities in the support of programmatic goals.
  • Apply software engineering principles, theories and concepts to complex analytical processes and information
    display and visualization.
  • Leverage modeling and simulation to address complex problems across multiple different fields. These fields
    may include nuclear, chemistry, digital twins, critical infrastructure, energy delivery, and energy security
    applications.
  • Analyze, test, modify, document, and maintain models or simulation-based systems related to scientific domains,
    including nuclear applications.
  • Execute assigned computational analysis/modeling tasks.
  • Make preliminary selections and adaptations of technical alternatives.
  • Develop and review designs, requirement definitions, operations, documentation, and testing processes.
  • Optimize, program, and develop software using appropriate technologies for the application (which may include
    MATLAB, Simulink, C/C++/C#, Python, Julia, etc.).
  • Continuously enhance your skills with cutting-edge technology.
  • Provide consultation services to internal teams in the areas of applicable technologies, requirement definitions,
    operations, and testing. Deliver high quality product features exceeding client expectations.
  • May mentor junior level staff and lead groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Eligibility:



  • Individuals who have graduated from a college or university with a bachelor's degree within the last 12 months.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with programing languages like C#, Rust, Javascript, and Python.
  • Experience with relational databases or other types of databases

Review and Evaluation: Performance and satisfaction will be reviewed at three, six, and nine months. At the six-month review, potential next steps will be discussed:



  • Transition to a full-time role
  • Pursue additional education
  • Explore other opportunities


Job Information:

The pay range for this position is $82,152 - $88,992. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required.
