Your role

As a Controls Build Technician, you will report directly to the Controls Build Team Lead at our Atlas Copco-Grayling, MI facility. This position is responsible for assembling, testing, installing and troubleshooting pipe and wiring systems on automated feeding equipment. Your ability to manage priorities and focus on the details will be critical in this important role, which is instrumental in the assembly of our machines.



Here's how you'll make an impact:



  • Assemble materials on the machinery according to print specifications from the controls engineering team
  • Layout machine controls from prints, test, troubleshoot, and install 24vdc, 120v, and 480v systems
  • Run switch cords between I/O and I/O blocks while organizing the cables for visual appearance and optimal functionality of the tool or machine
  • Route cables into enclosures through cable glands or cord grips and be able to properly terminate the wires to the proper terminal
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters and voltmeters to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.
  • Work with Controls to communicate any changes made to prints
  • Check plant inventory to ensure sufficient stock of wire, fittings, and other required materials
  • Use shop tools, both hand and power.
  • Read and follow blueprints, shop orders, specifications, and other instructions
  • Maintain a clean work area
  • Travel could be required at times

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Knowledge of electrical/automation systems, wiring, installation, and all related equipment
  • Basic understanding of mechanical design, controls design, and manufacturing workflow
  • Requires mathematical skills that require the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide and make metric system conversions
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime
  • Basic knowledge of pneumatics a plus
  • Able to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment
  • Requires good oral and written communication skills to interact with employees
