GENERAL SUMMARY:

Multi-skilled allied health professional that performs Neurodiagnostic procedures including electroencephalograms (EEG), long-term monitoring with video for epilepsy (LTM), intensive care unit (ICU) continuous EEG video monitoring (adult, neonatal and pediatric), and evoked potentials.

Responsible for the successful completion of daily operations with the main emphasis on high quality patient related procedures which adhere to the guidelines and technical standards set forth by the American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ASET) and American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS). Shows proficiency and expertise in the technical aspects of Neurodiagnostics while performing complex procedures.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Performs testing procedures such as EEG, LTM, and evoked potentials.

3. *Gathers pertinent medical history to aid neurologists in the interpretation data.

4. * Facilitates and collaborates with the continued growth of less experienced team members, shares knowledge, and precepts peers. Develops, updates, and maintains orientation and training materials.

5. *Prepares and adjusts daily work schedule to accommodate neurodiagnostic procedures.

6. *Maintains, operates, and corrects equipment problems in a manner that ensures accurate results.

7. *Completes documentation thoroughly and accurately.

8. *Communicates with the neurology providers regarding EEG impressions on normal, abnormal and variable recordings to expedite test results.

9. Disinfects and sterilizes equipment properly.

10. Complies with universal infection control procedures.

11. Handles hazardous waste materials such as acetone and collodion appropriately.

12. Notifies appropriate personnel when unforeseen variances/incidences occur regarding patients or equipment.

13. Participates in quality initiatives and activities as assigned.

14. Evaluates the need for different interpersonal approaches and applies them according to patient age, emotional status, and/or physical status.

15. Assists in moving patients before, during or after testing procedures.

16. Independently and accurately merges, clips, and prunes long term monitoring EEG studies.

17. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise.

18. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

19. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of neuroanatomy and physiology, basic electronics and electrical safety, digital recording systems, pattern recognition and various medical and pharmacological conditions that influence the neurodiagnostic procedures.

2. Knowledge of disease process to correlate patient history and clinical symptoms to determine appropriate maneuvers to be performed during the EEG procedure.

3. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

4. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

5. Ability to react and perform work effectively under stressful and emergent situations.

6. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

7. Ability to maintain accurate logs, reports, and files.

8. Ability to place patients and families at ease to record quality studies.

9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer, and ancillary departments including diverse patient populations.

10. Ability to maintain confidentiality relative to sensitive information.

11. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalency required. Minimum of two (2) years of post-high school coursework in science or math required. Associate's degree preferred. Progress to Neurodiagnostic Specialist job class within 36 months of hire through training and obtaining the Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (R EEG.T) credential preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)

(DOT) - Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
