Summary:
The
Meat Cutter /
Butcher
will
play a key role in ensuring our deli runs smoothly and our customers leave happy.
This position combines friendly, customer-facing service with hands-on food preparation. Responsibilities include preparing and packaging deli items, slicing premium meats and cheeses, and performing meat cutting and trimming to ensure products are fresh, well-presented, and tailored to customer needs. The ideal candidate enjoys working with food, takes pride in quality craftsmanship, and is comfortable handling both customer service and product preparation in a fast-paced, small-business environment.
Job Description:
- Greet customers warmly and provide prompt, courteous service.
- Take customer orders accurately and efficiently, answering questions about deli items.
- Slice meats and cheeses to order using commercial slicers and equipment.
- Package deli items, label products, and ensure proper storage and rotation.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the deli counter, workstations, and display cases.
- Stock / Restock shelves and displays with fresh products and supplies.
- Monitor product freshness and quality, removing expired or damaged items.
- Operate cash register or point-of-sale (POS) system for purchases and transactions.
- Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper glove and hairnet use.
- Assist with preparing simple deli items such as sandwiches, salads, or trays, as needed.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth daily operations and excellent customer experience.
- Report any equipment issues or safety concerns to management promptly.
- Prepare and assemble high-quality deli items for the meat case, including kabobs, marinated meats, and gourmet burgers.
- Grind meat according to the daily production schedule, maintaining consistency and accuracy.
- Cut and portion a variety of meats such as pork, chicken, and poultry based on daily production needs; cut beef products as required.
- Consistently meet department proficiency, yield, and quality standards.
- Help reduce department shrink by identifying opportunities for repurposing products.
- Maintain up-to-date grind and sanitation logs in compliance with health and safety standards.
- Organize and rotate products in backroom coolers to ensure freshness, proper labeling, and minimal waste.
- Operate and maintain all meat department equipment, including knives, grinders, saws, and coolers, ensuring all tools are clean and in safe working order.

- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Basic math skills
- Meet and maintain position availability, attendance and punctuality expectations.
- Remember image is vital -therefore, good hygiene, wearing appropriate company apparel, name tag, hair nets where designated, and a smile is required.
- Meet position productivity, accuracy, and quality, dependability and physical requirements.
- Able to multi-task, work efficiently/effectively in a fast paced, multi-changing work environment and embrace change.
- Attention to detail and follow through skills.
- Strong customer relations skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Minimum 1 year experience and excellent work history
- Prior Meat cutting/butcher shop experience preferred
- Knowledge of meat handling, cutting techniques and safe operation of slicing/butchery equipment is a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift/push/pull 50lb regularly
- Able to stand for long periods of time
