PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors in the school. This position will assist agency leadership and staff with enforcing policies and procedures for safe and orderly schools. Assisting staff with disorderly students, fights, and other safety security related incidents. Also responsible for ensuring full compliance with all federal, state, and local school and public safety and security protocols; and researching and recommending other safety and security measures.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

1. Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety and security policies and procedures. E

2. Coordinates the safety and security programs to promote and ensure a safe working environment. E

3. Evaluates the effectiveness of safety and security programs. E

4. Reviews current safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates. E

5. Submits recommendations for improvements and additions to the safety management program including emergency preparedness, active shooter, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management. E

6. Consistently patrols and monitors hallways, lunchroom, classrooms, gym, playground, parking lots, and school surroundings to protect and deter against activities that may be disruptive or pose a safety risk to the school environment.* E*

7. Required to be available for all after school special events.* E*

8. Stops operations and activities that could harm staff or equipment. E

9. Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems. NE

10. Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations. E

11. Monitors, supervises, and directs pupil movement and activities.* E*

12. Works closely with agency and school leadership, police, fire department, and/or other appropriate authorities on emergency and crisis situations. E

13. Conducts searches and investigations as appropriate and as directed.* NE*

14. Investigates student misbehavior, disruptions, and incidents involving violation school policies and prepares summary reports. E

15. Agency liaison for local law enforcement involvement for property damage investigations and follow up.* NE*

16. Assists with maintaining order during student arrival and departure, traffic, fire drills, Active Shooter drills, and other safety training and drills. NE

17. Maintains security records, logs, and reports. E

18. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules. E

19. Attend meetings and professional development activities, as requested. E

20. Establish and maintain good communication, collaboration, and cooperation with all interested stakeholders. E

21. Follow all duties of a mandated reporter. E

22. Perform other related duties, as assigned. NE

Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:

Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Must have the ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; articulate information in an emergency situation; use physical agility and strength to defend self and detain persons using force if necessary; and have the visual acuity necessary to observe and comprehend student movement.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Duties are normally performed inside the school, classroom environment, and outdoors in all weather conditions. Minimal local travel required.

REPORTS TO: Principal and/or designee

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school degree and/or GED. Associates degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, security, or closely related field from an accredited college or university. (Highly Preferred)
  • Three (3) years' experience working in a security position and/or law enforcement capacity.
  • Certification and formal training and knowledge in the area of school security and safety and Student Rights and Responsibilities OR must successfully complete School Security Training & Certification within 90 days of start date.
  • Experience and ability to apply, standard security measures, procedures, and best practices.
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English), spoken and written.
  • Neat orderly person with great organizational skills.
  • Must be a "People Person" with a great disposition and outlook on life, who enjoys working with others, is upbeat and pleasant to work with and is a good listener.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, written and verbal
  • Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license and required insurance coverage.
  • Must pass all background checks.
