The Product Controls Engineer will work as a member of the cross-department product development matrix structure reporting to an engineering supervisor while receiving directives and objectives from other department leaders and project managers. The Product Controls Engineer will also work in close collaboration with business leaders and solutions architects for developing mechatronics systems. The Product Controls Engineer will be responsible and accountable to ensure that all electrical hardware with complimentary software is performing to the documented requirements and specifications.



Job Responsibilities and Requirements

Responsibilities:
* Develop and maintain software/firmware for mechatronic control systems from ideation through validation.
* Write, execute and support the development of software/firmware verification and validation procedures.
* Responsible for the design and implementation of system architectures, network topologies, bills of materials, control panel design, and wire/cable schematics.
* Supports product managers and solutions architects in creating product development strategies.
* Produces technical documentation that can be tailored to different audiences.
* Works with the project manager in estimating costs and creating budgets per project scope.
* Performs impact analysis on proposed solutions and changes.
* Perform System Audits and verify that actual work matches all documentation to ensure high quality.
* Responsible for following proper Change Management processes for the Electrical and Software design
* Consulted for the installation and technical support of electrical hardware and software/firmware. This includes supporting Mechanical and Electrical Field installers.
* Assists with the support and troubleshooting of installed systems, such as phone assistance outside normal business hours
* Assists the creation and teaching of associated training.
Requirements:
* B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or like equivalent from an accredited Institution.
* 1+ years of related experience in software/firmware development of mechatronics and/or embedded systems, reflected on solid knowledge of mechatronic controls engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.
* Ability to develop software/firmware documentation packages, descriptions of operations, and interfaces between systems.
* Ability to produce, analyze and update source code in Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, and CODESYS environments.
* Ability to architect software/firmware development plans (Software/firmware modularization strategy, software/firmware organization strategy focus on readability and reusability).
* Ability to understand and write source code using IEC 61131-3 programming languages (primarily Structured Text and Ladder Diagram)
* Ability to Manage Software/Firmware Version and Change Control using Git and Git tools.
* Ability to configure PLC's, HMI's, computers, networks, cameras, and variable frequency drives which are used to control sorters, conveyors, and other related equipment.
* A self-managed individual who is a team player, comfortable working with other cross-continent teams.
o Ability to work under immediate supervision of senior team members.
o comfortable with following defined instructions and pre-established guidelines.
* Effective communication (verbal and written) and relationship skills with engineering groups, customers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
* Comfortable and able to navigate a rapidly changing environment.
* Ability to travel nationally and internationally, work weekends, holidays and overtime when required (average estimation is 30% per year).
* Ability to be at customer facilities during startups, upgrades, or validations to coordinate and help resolve issues.
* Must be located within a commutable distance to the office located in Hanover, MD (near Baltimore)
* Must pass drug screening and background check.
* Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders occasionally.
* Must have the ability to work in noisy, cold, and hot industrial environments occasionally.
Desired Qualifications:
* Experience with at least one of the following PLC and HMI development environments:
o Rockwell Automation Studio 5000 Logix Designer
o Siemens TIA Portal
o Beckhoff TwinCAT or other CODESYS Platform
* Experience in porting code between different development environments/platforms (ex. Studio5000 to TIA Portal).
* Experience with any of the following programming languages: Python, C/C++, Java, or similar
* Worked with the following Fieldbuses and communication protocols: Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, and Profinet, and OPC-UA
* Experience using Simulation and Digital Twin tools for software development.
* Proficiency in Visio, AutoCAD Electrical, and Autodesk Inventor.
* Experience in software/firmware development in a CI (Continuous Integration)/CD (continuous deployment) environment.
* Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior Driven Development (BDD).
* Familiar with the PTC Windchill PLM environment and Oracle ERP
* Understanding of NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 79, UL508A Standards and regulations, and European Machine directive.
* Have a deep understanding about ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288.
* Experience with the different life-cycle stages of a product.
* Understanding of Linux based automation systems.

The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Intralox considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training and key skills. The position is eligible for one of the following: commissions, discretionary incentives, or production incentives according to the terms of those plans
Salary Range $68,000 to $187,600.
