Job Description:

The Principal Engineer - Applications (Software Focus) will enable customers to integrate Microchip Ethernet products into larger networking systems. The Applications engineer will create proof of concept applications built upon released Microchip software, create demonstration materials, and write collateral that will make it easier for customers to use Microchip products.

Key job responsibilities/duties include:

  • Develop and drive Automotive Networking strategy and vision within the team

  • Develop and manage winning Automotive Networking solution roadmap for Multi-Gigabit Ethernet and legacy automotive protocols

  • Promote existing and new solutions to global automotive customer base

  • Solid customer engagement to drive new solution definition and technical requirements gathering

  • Create technical demonstrations and proof-of-concepts

  • Lead competitive analysis of automotive networking solutions, including performance benchmarking and feature comparison

  • Collaborate with engineering teams on DSA framework implementations and network topology optimization

  • Close relations with field sales and applications engineers to drive and close design wins

  • Develop technical collateral including application notes, reference designs and software examples

  • Create new solution business cases and plans to clearly articulate ROI with quantitative technical analysis

  • Execute new solution launches including customer presentation, sales and channel training, technical collateral, press material, pricing, promotion tours, and web page content generation

  • Support customer evaluations with hands-on technical assistance and custom scripting solutions

  • Forecast global demand to ensure seamless supply chain

  • Cross divisional engagement to maximize opportunities for Microchip across software and hardware platforms.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelors with 10+ years of relevant experience Electronics, Computer Science or other related fields, or Masters degree with 7.5+ relevant experience in Electronics, Computer Science or other related fields

  • Strong knowledge of Automotive Networking protocols (CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, FlexRay, Automotive Ethernet) and standard network protocols (TCP, IP, UDP, etc.)

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Multi-Gigabit Ethernet Switches (1G/2.5G/5G/10G) and switching architectures preferred

  • Understanding of Linux-based embedded systems and automotive software platforms

  • Experience with Distributed Switch Architecture (DSA) frameworks and network topologies

  • Strong knowledge of Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) standards and generalized Precision Time Protocol (gPTP).

  • Experience with automotive Ethernet protocols (SOME/IP, DoIP) and testing tools (Vector CANoe, Wireshark, network analyzers)

  • Very strong programming skills and proficiency in advanced programming concepts including real-time systems, multi-threading and network programming
