What to Expect

As a Design Engineer in the Seating Engineering Department at Tesla, you will play a critical role in the design and development of seating systems from concept through end-of-life, while also addressing challenges with existing products. Seating commodities include structures, mechanisms, actuators, cushions, wire harnesses, controllers, sensors, software, and trims, with potential for innovative future solutions. You will be part of the Seating Engineering Team within Tesla's Vehicle Engineering Group, leveraging specialized expertise and broad skills to create comfortable, robotic, and structurally artistic seating solutions for vehicular occupants.


What You'll Do
  • Conceptualize, design, and engineer seating system components and products while managing them through the full lifecycle
  • Define problems, set targets, generate and evaluate concepts, and plan product strategy and architecture
  • Balance and negotiate product attributes such as safety, functionality, comfort, aesthetics, cost, mass, schedule, and sustainability
  • Validate and optimize designs through prototyping, physical testing, CAE simulations, and design reviews
  • Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and bills of materials with attention to datum, fixation strategy, GD&T, and DFM
  • Collaborate with external organizations to ensure seamless integration and execution
  • Manage schedules, milestones, and technical documentation for official communication and use

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of exceptional ability in engineering or related fields
  • Design engineering experience with a demonstrated interest in multidisciplinary engineering
  • Hands-on experience in building or creating tangible products
  • Proficiency in hand-sketching as a form of engineering communication
  • Automotive engineering experience, preferably in seating systems, though not mandatory
  • Strong organizational skills for managing complex projects and timelines

    Expected Compensation
    $92,720 - $159,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
