Software Engineer

The successful candidate will be responsible to design, develop, test, debug and implement embedded software for our Intercommunication System. Particular program emphasis relates to the development of Palomar's multi-level Secure Intercommunication Systems equipment, integrated and deployed on various military platforms.

Essential Skills and Required Experience:

  • Review requirements to design, develop and implement software applications of low to medium complexity.
  • Integrate the software application on the hardware target and support verification of the software build, ensuring compliance to requirements.
  • Collaborates cross functionally with system, hardware and test engineers to accomplish the project's objective and successfully deliver the expected functionality.
  • Provides engineering support for integrating, testing, deployment and updates of the software product embedded in the Intercommunication System.
  • Participates in the testing process through test review and analysis, test procedure development and software certification.
  • Provides technical documentation associated with the software product.
  • Coordinate / Participate in problem identification, tracking and resolution.
  • Comply and uphold Palomar's policies and standards.
  • Comply with Palomar's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
  • Working knowledge of C and/or C++
  • Knowledge and experience with Real Time Operating System (RTOS)
  • Understand the common communication interfaces such as SPI, I2C, USB, UART, Ethernet and others.
  • Utilizes version control, simulation, debugging and other development tools in order to meet objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Qualifications:
Level I: $75,000 - $85,000
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering discipline (or the equivalent combination of education and experience) Requires 0-2 years of software development experience as a Software Engineer or Embedded Software Engineer.
  • Relies on instructions and guidelines to perform the functions associated with the position.
  • Works under general direction, typically collaborating with more senior software engineers on the team. Participates in determining objectives of assignment. Work is reviewed upon completion to ensure that objectives have been met.
  • Works on problems of small scope and complexity. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Self-starter with a sense of urgency with the ability to manage small projects and deliver software components meeting the system requirements.
  • Experience in military avionics systems development, bid management, and customer support is a plus.
  • Experience with DO-178 and DO-254 development as well as DO-160 Qualification Testing is a plus.

Level II: $80,000 - $100,000
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering discipline (or the equivalent combination of education and experience) Requires 2-5 years of software development experience as a Software Engineer or Embedded Software Engineer.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, standards, practices and procedures used in the development of software applications developed for the aerospace industry.
  • Independent, works with minimal supervision, able to establish work prioritization and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives of assignment. Works in collaboration with highly skilled engineers to generate and deliver an
  • effective solution to our customers.
  • Works on problems of medium scope and complexity, where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates excellent judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Self-starter with a sense of urgency with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Mentors less experienced Software Engineers providing continuous improvement of their skillset and establishing standard work practices for all projects.
  • Experience in military avionics systems development, bid management, and customer support.
  • Experience with DO-178 and DO-254 development as well as DO-160 Qualification Testing.
