Summary
In alignment with Gift of Life Michigan's core purpose and core values, the Content Specialist will craft content that engages diverse audiences and reflects the organization's voice, mission, and strategy. This role blends creative writing with strategic messaging for the Communication Division and organization's content needs at high-impact moments-from events to advocacy days, to yearly publications intended to grow the audience and advance the mission. Duties & Responsibilities
The following job duties and responsibilities are stated in broad terms and not intended to be inclusive. Those in bold are essential duties of the position:
- Co-lead editorial planning and content execution of organization's publications, including collaborating with the VP, Director, and Media Specialist on story planning. managing deadlines, overseeing proofreading, and coordinating with the Senior Designer.
- Work with the Director to oversee video concept development and production in partnership with the video production team. Support the narrative, manage feedback rounds, and ensure final delivery aligns with campaign goals.
- Support strategic content development for newsletters, press releases, presentations, and organization-wide communications.
- Collaborate with event committees and leadership to develop scripts, messaging, and content aligned with program flow and organizational strategy.
- Contribute to brand voice and storytelling consistency across print, web, email, social, and multimedia channels.
- Develop and write donor family, recipient and stakeholder stories.
- Work with digital, media, and marketing teams to create promotional plans and ensure alignment across platforms.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations, marketing, or a related field plus 3 years of professional experience in program script writing, editorial content development, or strategic communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience writing for executive leadership and high-profile events.
- Strong editorial and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for tone, grammar, AP style and narrative flow.
- Experience managing cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders and deadlines.
- Familiarity with publication workflows, editorial calendars, and content review processes.
Preferred
- Familiarity with health care and inclusive language practices.
- Experience producing content across formats: print, digital, video scripts, and live event materials.
- Basic understanding of video production workflows or visual storytelling.
- Prior experience in a healthcare organization, transplant center, or organ/tissue procurement organization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
- Written and verbal fluency in English.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook and Teams and other technology systems used in business operations.
