JOB TITLE: Senior Information Security Specialist

GOVERNMENT AGENCY: Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), CJIS Information Assurance Unit (CIAU)

LOCATION: Hybrid Position at the FBI CJIS location in Clarksburg, WV; this is a primarily remote position, however, occasional travel to the site may be requested by the customer

POSITION TIMING: Contingent on award; expected contract start date August 30, 2025

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT: Candidate must hold an active Top-Secret clearance. Additionally, the candidate must obtainFBI CJIS access, which typically takes3-4 weeks to processandmust be completed prior to startingon the program.

We are seeking a Senior Information Security Specialist to support the FBI CJIS Division in the review, analysis, and enforcement of cybersecurity across mission-critical systems and services. This role plays a key part in ensuring that management, operational, personnel, and technical controls are functioning effectively throughout the system lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of federal cybersecurity standards, technical depth, and hands-on experience in both traditional and Agile environments.



Responsibilities

    Conduct security control reviews across all phases of the system development lifecycle to ensure consistent and effective protection of information systems.
  • Identify and assess security risks, threats, vulnerabilities, and weaknesses, providing recommendations and mitigation strategies to protect FBI CJIS systems and data.
  • Ensure information system compliance with government cybersecurity frameworks and industry standards includingNIST, OWASP, Common Criteria, DISA STIGs, and SANS best practices.
  • Apply knowledge ofnetworking, system administration, and development practices to evaluate technical implementations and security postures.
  • Collaborate with system owners, ISSOs, and development teams to ensure proper implementation of security controls withinAgile environments, including SAFe frameworks.
  • Utilize Splunk to monitor and analyze system logs, detect anomalies, and support incident response activities through proactive audit log review and system alerting.
  • Contribute to the preparation and maintenance of cybersecurity documentation such as System Security Plans (SSPs), Security Assessment Reports (SARs), and POA&Ms.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of security assessments, audits, and continuous monitoring activities in support of system authorization and compliance objectives.
  • Advise on technical security matters and provide clear, concise briefings and documentation to both technical teams and executive stakeholders.


Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in information security or cybersecurity within a federal or state government environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of NIST RMF, DISA STIGs, and related federal security guidelines.
  • Hands-on technical experience in one or more areas: networking, system administration, or software/application development.
  • Familiarity with security monitoring and log aggregation tools, particularly Splunk, for audit and alerting functions.
  • Ability to assess and communicate cybersecurity risks and control effectiveness to stakeholders.
  • Security Clearance: Active Top Secret clearance.

DESIRED:

  • Bachelors Degree, preferred; 2+ years of additional experience can be substituted in lieu of the degree.
  • CompTIA Security+,CISSP, or equivalent certification.
  • Experience supporting DOJ, FBI, or similar federal agencies.
  • Familiarity with SAFe Agile methodology and secure DevOps practices.
  • Experience with tools such as Tenable, Nessus, BigFix, or other vulnerability management platforms.
