HDR seeks a paralegal with experience supporting corporate legal functions to join its in-house legal team in Omaha, Nebraska. Our ideal candidate is highly motivated, enjoys learning new areas and contributing to a team-oriented positive office environment. Strong verbal and written communications skills are crucial, along with good judgment and an appreciation of discretion when working with confidential or sensitive information. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated history of responsiveness and professionalism while working in a busy, diverse legal setting.



Due to our collaborative team environment, paralegals work in the office 5 days / week. Occasional flexibility for work from home is permitted with advanced supervisor approval.



Primary Objectives


In the role of Paralegal, we'll count on you to:



  • Provide administrative support to the in-house HDR Legal team, including as examples, drafting correspondence, proofreading documents, responding to outside requests for information, and gathering documents to produce in discovery.
  • Contribute to the identification, development, drafting, and execution of policy and process improvements.
  • Assist with administrative agency filings and submissions.
  • Support the litigation hold and e-discovery processes for pending litigation.
  • Act as a liaison for HDR Legal with internal stakeholders, outside counsel and agency staff.
  • Review certificates of insurance to ensure compliance with contract specific insurance requirements.
  • Coordinate with insurance brokers, employees, clients and certificate of insurance vendors to resolve non-compliance issues and obtain revised certificates as needed.
  • Collect underwriting information and prepare documentation to support insurance policy renewals across multiple lines of coverage.
  • Submit and track auto liability insurance claims, ensuring timely communication with carriers and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage all aspects of HDR's Railroad Protective Liability (RPL) insurance program, including quoting, binding, and certificate of insurance issuance.
  • Monitor compliance with HDR's corporate vehicle use policy.
  • Reviewing and providing support on legal contracts (e.g., NDAs, subconsultant agreements, service provider provisions, and data transfer agreements) under the direction and oversight of our in-house attorneys.
  • Performing legal and factual research utilizing various sources including the internet, the company's intranet, and other software and applications, and drafting research results in memorandum format for attorney review.
  • Reviewing and processing outside counsel and legal consultant invoices against engagement agreements and billing guidelines.
  • Reviewing company policies and practices to promote and adhere to company's goals and compliance with applicable laws.
  • Report to and communicate professionally with in-house counsel, in some cases outside counsel, and senior management.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to timely execute legal tasks.
  • Maintain flexibility to accept new assignments as needed to support HDR Legal's role in a global, growing enterprise.
  • Handle a wide variety of complex and confidential time-sensitive material.
  • Perform other duties as needed.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant paralegal experience preferred
  • 8+ years of relevant paralegal experience strongly preferred
  • Prior law firm experience
  • Certified Paralegal (CP) or Advanced Certified Paralegal (ACP) designation or equivalent degree (e.g., Paralegal studies) or work experience
  • Aptitude to thrive in dynamic environment and manage competing demands

Required Qualifications
  • BS or BA
  • A minimum of 2 years of legal experience working directly with attorneys
  • Strong organizational skills and sharp attention to detail for this fast-paced, document-intensive position
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Legal Tracker with the willingness to learn new software programs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required to interact with executive management, staff, attorneys, outside counsel and internal and external clients on a daily basis
  • Ability to use good judgment in taking initiative and proceeding on a project or getting direction and clarification
  • Comfort to work independently to resolve problems and confer with attorney(s) on final solutions or next step processes
  • Must be proactive, flexible, solutions-oriented with ability to navigate through obstacles
  • Must be team-oriented, responsive, collaborative, organized
