HDR has an excellent career opportunity in our Florida Area for a professional to lead the development and growth of our Florida Wastewater (WW) Market Sector (MS). The Florida Wastewater Market Sector Lead (MSL) is a professional who is passionate about protecting public health, is well-versed in services associated with wastewater treatment plant improvements, wastewater pumping stations, biosolids, and collection system pipelines. The WW MSL will lead efforts to expand collaborative delivery opportunities, including Progressive Design Build. We are looking for someone who will work in a collaborative manner with local and national leadership to set the vision and strategy for wastewater related services including planning, detailed design, and engineering services to utilities and agencies across Florida.

The Florida Wastewater MSL will report to the Area Water Business Group (WBG) Manager and partner with our Area Business Development Manager, Professional Services Lead, Client Managers, Project Managers, Business Class (BC) Leads, and technical staff to support Wastewater MS business development and project delivery in the area. The Wastewater MSL will also engage with regional and national Wastewater Directors for strategic alignment and establishment of initiatives.

Primary responsibilities for the Wastewater Market Sector Lead include:



  • Partner with the FL WBG Business Development Manager for WW Market Sector activities such as planning and strategizing for growth
  • Lead the implementation of the WW MS strategic initiatives for Florida
  • Responsible for growth of the WW MS
  • Lead area-level market sector communications (to WW Project Managers and WW technical leads) Partner with Florida WBG leadership and the FL WBG Manager to manage project staffing, workload and technical development of staff
  • Serve as mentor for the development of skills for wastewater staff across Florida
  • Coordinate a strategy and engagement in professional organizations (FWEA, DBIA, etc.)Partner with national, area, and local BC leaders for planning and implementation of strategic initiatives
  • Serve as a Project Manager for key WW MS projects with strategic clients
  • Serve as a technical resource through quality reviews for our WW MS clients
  • Lead recruitment of WW MS staff for growth and delivery success
  • Experienced with industry associations with a visible profile in the market sector
  • Ability to work cooperatively with Regional Market Sector Directors, Market Sector Directors, Business Class Directors, Regional Business Group Directors, Area Business Group Managers, Area Marketing Managers and Area Managers
  • Demonstrated commitment to HDR values. An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualification:


  • 15 years of wastewater industry leadership experience
  • Experience as a process mechanical engineer with design delivery experience on wastewater treatment plants and pumping station projects
  • Experience as a design manager (i.e. interdisciplinary lead) on wastewater treatment and pumping station detailed design projects
  • Experience on collaborative delivery wastewater projects including PDB and Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR)
  • Experience as Owner's Advisor on wastewater projects

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering, planning or a related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of industry experience
  • Experienced in development and management of strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services
  • Experienced in development and management of a wide range of client relationships and specific program and/or project pursuits
  • Experienced in overall staff development to include recruiting, career path and professional growth
  • Experienced with industry associations and maintains a visible profile in the market sector
  • Ability to work cooperatively with Regional Market Sector Directors, Market Sector Directors, Business Class Directors, Regional Business Group Directors, Area Business Group Managers, Area Marketing Managers and Area Managers
  • Demonstrated commitment to HDR values. An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
