Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Biostatistician for the department of Pediatrics at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The Senior Biostatistician will be a resource and leader who will support faculty in PopQuIS and those within the Joint Program in Population and Prevention Sciences (J3PS) - a joint program of the Department of Pediatrics and the Child Health Institute of NJ. In this role the Senior Biostatistician will support cutting edge, collaborative research, with a focus in the areas of systemic influences of health (e.g. social determinants of health, health system impacts, forces related to equity and disparities) and related to the health and health services research regarding individuals and populations, with a focus area including primary care research. The position requires knowledge of pragmatic biostatistics and high-level skills in statistical programming and analysis, as well as expertise in research methodology. He/she will perform advanced analyses independently and primarily in collaboration with the Division and Program Directors, faculty, research staff, and postdoctoral fellows, support faculty, other research staff, and postdoctoral fellow research. In coordination with the PopQuIS Division Director, the successful candidate will also be the lead individual to develop, curate, and manage a data center comprised of publicly available data under the direction of program leadership. The position may offer the opportunity to propose and to conduct independent studies of interest to program directors, faculty, and fellows; with the opportunity to develop presentations, posters, tables, and figures for publication and presentation, both independently and under the guidance of faculty, fellows and staff. The position may require the opportunity to mentor and manage research staff, especially regarding data acquisition integration, management, analysis, and presentation.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Work with project leadership and others as needed to develop valid and reliable plans for analyses consistent with underlying conceptual and operational models and the study design.
  • Collaborate, develop, and suggest epidemiological and statistical analyses supporting faculty research projects. Implement these analyses once agreed up.
  • Develop and run statistically advanced programs in SAS, STATA, and R as appropriate for the research question and project.
  • Collaborate as necessary with biostatisticians, epidemiologists, other analysts, and other methodologists in keeping with the needs and intentions of each project.
  • As necessary, work across disciplines to lead and perform quantitative components of mixed methods and evaluation projects.
  • Support, guide, and mentor fellows and other research staff/statistical programmers/analysts regarding the development and use of statistical programs to analyze data.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • A PhD in public health, biostatistics, epidemiology, social science methods, clinical investigation, or other related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a data analyst or statistical programmer, quantitative epidemiologist or similar role, in public health, biostatistics, epidemiology or similar environment.
  • Experience in an academic medical center environment.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • High level of computer literacy including experience using statistical analysis software, and data entry management experience.
  • Other programs of interest include Stata and R.
  • The ideal candidate will possess expertise beyond statistical programming to include demography, sociological methods.
  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function independently as a dependable team member in a team environment required.
  • Ability to manage projects and to prioritize across projects with competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership to research staff.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle several projects at once in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communications skills and be willing to work closely with both clinical and research faculty, and with research staff.
  • It is expected that this individual keeps abreast of new technologies and computer methods going forward.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference is given to those with experience in an academic or quasi-academic setting.

  • SAS skills preferred.

  • Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, or hearing. No special vision requirements.
  • Work Environment: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). This position is considered on site, however opportunities for hybrid in person / remote work may be permissible in accordance with Rutgers/RBHS policies.
