Associate General Counsel/Counsel II - Transmission (Remote)

This position will serve as a lawyer reporting to the senior managing general counsel in the transactional and regulatory legal practice group. You will be working with business partners in the Gid Operation, Transmission and Regional Markets groups to further key business strategies and projects and provide counsel and advice with respect to federal and state regulatory considerations and represent the company before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and potentially the Oregon Public Utility Commission. You will be one of the primary lawyers in the Legal Department for regulatory issues relating to transmission planning and operations and FERC matters generally.

This position will serve as a legal advisor assisting the Company in complying with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations. You will also advocate for company positions, potentially representing the company in contested proceedings before regulatory agencies. The successful candidate will be joining a practice group and legal department that prizes and fosters a culture of collaboration with business partners and among lawyers, creative problem-solving, and results.

PGE supports career progression, and this role will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's applicable skills and experience at either the Assistant General Counsel or Counsel II.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides legal counsel on federal regulatory issues ensuring company's interests are effectively represented by developing and recommending company positions on legal issues to further the company's legal interests and mitigate potential legal risk for commercial matters, rate proceedings, regional collaborations, and regulatory proceedings (including regulatory audits).

  • Identifies and assesses legal, business and regulatory risks and offers steps to comply and mitigate risk.

  • Prepares and reviews written legal contracts, documents and provides legal analyses, interpretations and recommendations in compliance with policies and laws.

  • Identifies and implements process improvements and efficiencies within the Legal department. Contributes to the overall strategy and goals of specific business partners, the practice group, and department as a whole.

  • Represents and advocates for PGE's interests to governmental agencies, counter parties and third parties.

  • Selects outside counsel as needed. Oversees outside counsel to ensure cost-effective and high-quality legal representation.

Education/Experience/Certifications

Requires a Juris Doctor degree.

Eight to 15 years practicing (in private practice, in-house, or government) in connection with transmission regulatory and FERC matters.

Admitted to Oregon State Bar bar (or able to be admitted within 6 months of employment)

Environment: Office/Hybrid/Travel within PGE Service Territory

PGE supports hybrid flexible work arrangements; and will have a combination of in-the-office and working offsite, however, these arrangements may need to change due to business needs or changes in responsibility. For this position, PGE will consider applicants who will work remotely or offsite with only occasional presence required in Portland, Oregon. We will consider a fully remote individual in the following states only: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.

Compensation Range:

$132,160.00 - $281,710.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
