Research Scientist, Division of Endocrinology

The University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, invites applications for a Research Scientist position to support the research program of Dr. Zhenqi Liu. This position offers an opportunity to be part of a dynamic research team conducting cutting-edge investigations in insulin action, muscle and vascular biology, and metabolism.

Responsibilities:

• Design and independently execute laboratory-based research studies on muscle metabolism and vascular biology.
• Perform in vivo rodent experiments, cell culture, molecular biology, and confocal microscopy.
• Supervise and mentor research trainees, including postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduates.
• Collaborate with Dr. Liu and other lab members on research design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.
• Present findings at internal seminars and national conferences.
• Develop independent research projects and pursue external funding opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in biomedical sciences or a related field or master's degree with significant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Extensive experience in metabolic and vascular biology research.
• Proficiency in in vivo experimentation with rodent models.
• Skilled in advanced molecular and cellular biology techniques, including confocal microscopy.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor research personnel.
• Strong publication record as first or senior author in peer-reviewed journals.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
