Role of a Claims Manager
Note: This position is located 3 or more days a week in the downtown San Francisco Office.
Oversees workers' compensation claims, auto liability claims, general liability claims, and driver qualification files, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and the timely resolution of cases. This role includes managing a team, providing leadership, guidance, and performance oversight to support operational efficiency and risk mitigation.
Essential Responsibilities
- Oversees and manages all workers' compensation claims, auto liability claims, and liability claims ensuring timely reporting, investigation, and resolution in alignment with industry-specific risks and regulations.
- Maintains and audits driver qualification files for CDL and non-CDL drivers, ensuring compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and environmental safety standards.
- Supervises a team, providing leadership, training, and performance management to support claims and compliance functions.
- Collaborates with operations, safety, and People teams to investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and reduce workplace injuries.
- Coordinates with third-party administrators, insurers, and legal counsel to manage claims costs and ensure appropriate case handling.
- Monitors trends in workplace injuries and vehicle incidents, generating reports and recommendations for safety improvements.
- Supports return-to-work programs and modified duty placements in collaboration with site managers and People Partners.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to waste handling, transportation, and employee safety.
- Conducts regular audits of claims files and driver records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 4 years of experience preferred.
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Related management experience within resource recovery or related industry.
- Computer programs, including Microsoft Office suite of applications.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Time management skills.
- Ability to identify and seek needed information/research skills.
- Principles of employee training, supervision, and evaluation.
- Supervisory techniques, resource allocation, planning and budgeting.
