Department Summary Facilities is a service organization responsible for the planning, renovation, maintenance, and repair of University buildings and facilities; and the provision of utilities, vehicle rental, refuse collection, custodial and other services essential to the mission of the University of North Texas. For more information go to: https://facilities.unt.edu/ Position Overview This position is responsible for small equipment repairs, cleaning and sanitation emergencies, delivering custodial supplies and special projects. Those who work an overnight shift may earn addition compensation. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: Operates University vehicle to deliver supplies. Acts as liaison between a customer and a department in arranging details of work requested. Performs repairs to small custodial equipment. Responds to custodial emergency calls, performing required cleaning and sanitation duties. Responsible for cleaning duties of all flooring, furniture, walls, ceilings, windows, windowsills, woodwork, restrooms, drinking fountains and other surfaces of assigned work area. Completes special projects as assigned. Observes safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed. Minimum Qualifications There are no minimum education or experience requirements. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to follow oral and written instructions ability to read and understand labels on chemicals. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to complete tasks (example: measuring and mixing chemicals). Sufficient knowledge of cleaning methods and the proper use of cleaning equipment. Ability to operate vacuum cleaner, floor waxer, floor buffer, and other cleaning equipment. Physical ability to perform work involving standing, stooping, operating cleaning equipment, and lifting of materials and equipment. Ability to recognize and to report maintenance needs in buildings. Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed. Preferred Qualifications Ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to keep records and complete forms accurately. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to complete tasks (example: measuring). Sufficient knowledge of proper use of equipment. Physical ability to perform work involving standing, stooping, operating equipment, and lifting of materials and equipment. Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed. Required License/Registration/Certifications Job Duties: Assist Supervisor in servicing areas due to vacant positions or staff absences. Complete project work such as stripping hard floor surfaces, carpet cleaning and scrubbing of restrooms. Communicate with custodial supervisors in the absence of the Asst. Supervisor daily. Inform Supervisor of absent employees or vacant positions that require assistance in servicing. Ensure proper care of custodial equipment. Clean and return to the designated area for storage. Report repair needs to the Supervisor. Follow all departmental cleaning standards provided by supervisory leadership. Consistently completes expected duties in a timely manner without constant supervision. Accepts responsibility for own work and follows through on commitments. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like. Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds. Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Operating machinery and/or power tools. Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment. Environmental Hazards: Noisy environments. Exposure to fumes or airborne particles. Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind. Work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
