Research Assistant, Temporary - Department of Oncology

Georgetown University comprises two unique campuses in the nation's capital. With the Hilltop Campus located in the heart of the historic Georgetown neighborhood, and the Capitol Campus, just minutes from the U.S. Capitol and U.S. Supreme Court, Georgetown University offers rigorous academic programs, a global perspective, and unparalleled opportunities to engage with Washington, D.C. Our community is a close-knit group of remarkable individuals driven by intellectual inquiry, a commitment to social justice, and a shared dedication to making a difference in the world.

Requirements

The Research Assistant works with metabolite annotation, which is a significant challenge in metabolomics. New computational methods to address this challenge are highly desired. The Ressom Lab has generated metabolomic data using LC-MS and GC-MS platforms. Statistical analysis of these data and annotation of the metabolites is pending due to lack of human resources.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Assist in analysis of LC-MS and GC-MS data.
  • Perform database and spectral library integration for metabolite identification.
  • Develop codes for network and pathway analysis.

Work Interactions

The candidate will develop computational methods that will enable annotation of metabolites based on numerous putative IDs obtained so far. This step has been a bottleneck for multiple metabolomic studies conducted by the Ressom Lab. An automated metabolite annotation tool is urgently needed to take advantage of existing LC-MS and GC-MS data for cancer biomarker discovery.
