Overview
Responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and overall operation of the company's vehicle and equipment fleet. This role ensures that all fleet and equipment are maintained, safe, and compliant with regulations. The Fleet & Shop Manager also oversees all Mechanics and Transport Truck Drivers.
Responsibilities
Oversee the daily operations in the shop, including scheduling repairs, preventative maintenance, and inspections.
- Ensure accurate records are being maintained in Limble.
- Ensures all fleets have Samsara correctly installed, labeled, and utilized.
- Maintain inventory counts and ordering of supplies on any parts, tools, equipment, and shop supplies.
- Manage cost analysis on fleet and fleet expenses and work closely with accounting to ensure budget is being optimized.
- Evaluate, plan, and recommend when fleet upgrades or replacements will be needed.
- Communicate directly and work closely with operations.
- Monitor shop crew's hours each day by utilizing the appropriate software, along with collection of all required daily logs.
- Responsible for hiring, building, developing, and overseeing the shop crew.
- Ensure compliance with all DOT, OSHA, and environmental regulations are met. As well as ensuring shop crews are utilizing proper PPE and a safety-first culture.
- Maintain a safety-first culture always.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Preferred experience in management or comparable leadership role.
- Preferred 5+ years of experience in fleet maintenance and mechanics.
- Strong knowledge of diesel mechanics and heavy equipment.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and dusty environments.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Be able to work overtime when required.
- Must have a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Communication skills, ability to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, contractors, and the general public in a courteous, professional manner at all times.
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of road construction methods, road construction materials, and industry requirements.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
- Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
- Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- Valid driver's license required.
