Summary

MSOE invites applications for a full- time Systems Administrator to join our IT team. As a member of the IT Infrastructure team, the Systems Administrator is responsible for fulfilling tasks related to servers, software, and user access. Tasks will be presented through our ticketing system, through email, and via projects assigned by the Director. Position will develop individual subject matter expertise and be a primary liaison to system and application stakeholders. The Systems Administrator will look for methods to innovate and improve efficiency with a focus on providing a reliable client computing environment for the University.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain and monitor Windows servers in both a VMware virtual environment and Azure cloud environment, with attention paid to reliability and performance
  • Provide reliable server configurations to support university applications and desktop clients and ensure data is secured and protected
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation for use by the IT department
  • Select, test, and apply patches and upgrades on a regular basis
  • Monitor system performance and maintain logging systems
  • Design of enterprise Windows 11 desktop deployments and processes
  • Imaging design and programming work related to annual laptop program
  • Create, test, and troubleshoot standard deployment images
  • Administration of client software updating and patch management
  • Desktop configuration management using Microsoft Intune
  • Troubleshoot and solve complex user issues and escalated service tickets
  • Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure system and data security by using best practice configurations
  • Linux system administration (Rocky Linux and Ubuntu)
  • Drive technology and innovation and keep current with industry technologies

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required
  • Associates degree or higher (preferred) or minimum of 1 year of commensurate experience and skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate hands-on experience in Windows system administration
  • Thorough understanding of the hardware/software relationship
  • Ability to troubleshoot desktop and server networking issues
  • Familiarity with storage management and backup practices
  • Familiarity with PowerShell scripting, basic programming
  • Knowledge of Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, BitLocker, MIM, Intune, Windows Deployment Services, VMWare
  • On-call availability as required

  • Ability to speak effectively before employees of the organization. Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form with team members and customers in appropriate technical or non-technical language
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to apply complex problem-solving techniques to a variety of situations.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is largely sedentary, the ability to move is required. The employee is occasionally required to traverse within their work area as well as other areas on campus. Ability to lift 35 lbs.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment, including but not limited to computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. Modern datacenter with 7ft racks.
