Summary of Position: Supports Ferris Dining Services in the direction and administration of activities of assigned unit(s) through coordination, supervision and leadership of the employees assigned to operations of the Dining Services Department.
Position Type: Staff
Required Education: Associate's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Management or related field and two years of full-time food service experience including 1 year of supervisory experience.
Required Work Experience: Two years of food service experience, including recent supervisory or lead responsibilities.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Experience with scheduling, foodservice and/or point of sale software systems.
Culinary experience.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Serve as manager on duty, oversee meal service as assigned.
Open/close dining unit monitoring the security of facility and designated areas.
Monitor the production of meals/products served to ensure quality, presentation, and safety.
Ensure adherence to established standards of sanitation, safety, and cleanliness.
Train and supervise employees in their characteristic duties.
Promote customer service awareness and ensure guest satisfaction.
Resolve issues arising on shift, including customer complaints, staffing level issues, supply issues, point of sale issues, and/or equipment failure.
Maintain current knowledge of policies, procedures, and bargaining unit agreements and implement them as appropriate.
Prepare and maintain all necessary student records as assigned.
Assist with menu planning, requisitions for supplies and production records.
Prepare and maintain payroll and attendance records as assigned.
Utilize various software programs for the department's point of sales and menu/inventory systems.
Ensure proper cash handling in units and prepare deposits following established policies.
Adhere to franchise/brand policies/procedures/guidelines in applicable assignments and communicate necessary changes to appropriate manager.
Assist with preparing and giving annual Performance Appraisals.
Promote and foster teamwork amongst shifts/departments.
Proactively plan for upcoming events and scheduled groups.
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with university policies and applicable laws.
Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated information.
Operate university motor or personal vehicles safely while carrying out job responsibilities.
Cultivate an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty and staff to thrive authentically.
Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: Monitor equipment performance, report issues and arrange for repair as appropriate utilizing a web based work order system.
Attend departmental meetings and participate in established departmental communication practices.
Complete all quarterly and annual training required by university policy.
Assist with other areas of department as needed.
Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively, solve problems and make on-the-spot decisions using good judgment.
Ability to be flexible with work schedule and work locations to support the needs of the Dining Services Department.
Proficiency in learning and utilizing various computer software.
Demonstrated successful experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
