Job purpose:

  • This role is responsible for leading and executing a comprehensive range of activities for complex, cross-functional programs within the space business throughout the product lifecycle from conceptualization to delivery ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, customer requirements, safety standards, and mission timelines.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support new business development by conducting market research (identify target customers, use cases, competitor analysis, economic factors, etc.), clarify requirements and competitive advantages, define the value proposition, identify missing functions, and incorporate new ideas or innovations to further strengthen the competitive advantage.
  • Develop and maintain relationships within the space industry, actively participate in industry related conferences and professional associations, and proactively engage with potential customers to understand capability needs and requirements.
  • Organize, justify, and implement short, mid, and long-term action plans including milestone setting, task planning and scheduling to set the program's strategic direction. Ensure projects are executed to meet cost, schedule and performance requirements and ensure thorough documentation including technical reports, meeting minutes, schedules, and post-project reviews.
  • Support leadership with timely and accurate knowledge of customer priorities, program execution issues, capability gaps, and opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary interface between commercial partners, government agencies, internal stakeholders, and vendors. This includes working with internal support functions (procurement, legal, marketing, etc.), to facilitate contract negotiations, payments and invoicing, press releases, and other deliverables.
  • Collaborate with strategy group and the engineering team for the sharing of industry, regulatory, and product requirements and identify hurdles and propose solutions to promote the research and development of competitive products. Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements in project execution, systems development, and collaboration practices to drive innovation and competitive advantage.

Workstyle:

  • Onsite. One fixed day per workweek may be remote, based on prior departmental approval.

Travel requirements:

  • Around 30% to 50% - largely domestic and some international.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience in project management within the automotive, defense, aerospace and/or space industry.
  • Exceptional project planning and execution skills in high-stakes, technically complex environments.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g. MS Office Suite/Teams, etc.) and familiarity with sytems engineering tools (e.g. IBM Doors, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of the space industry, related technologies (e.g. robotics, satellites), or related space systems engineering.
  • Prior experience in working with external companies
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, mission-driven, and multidisciplinary environment.
