JOB TITLE: Curator - Latin American Art

JOB LOCATION: Denver Art Museum

Duties:

The position of Curator of Latin American Art involves the stewardship and expansion of the museum's Modern and Contemporary Latin American Art collection, the development of engaging exhibitions, and the cultivation of meaningful connections within the local and global art community.




  1. Collection Development and Research: Apply expertise in visual arts theory and techniques to enhance the museum's collection of Modern and Contemporary Latin American Art. Conduct in-depth research to identify and acquire significant works of art, ensuring the collection's relevance and growth. Collaborate with donors to secure funding for acquisitions, exhibitions, publications, and research initiatives.
  2. Exhibitions and Program Development: Organize and oversee exhibitions and installations using the permanent collection, loaned objects, and new commissions. Develop and execute co-produced exhibitions, exhibition tours, and collaborative projects with internal and external partners. Work closely with museum colleagues to create programming that aligns with the museum's strategic goals and enhances visitor engagement.
  3. Community Engagement and Education: Prepare and deliver lectures, tours, and workshops for diverse audiences, including the public, educators, students, and professional peers. Participate in panels, committees, and educational events to promote the museum and the field of Latin American art. Provide expert consultation and review grant proposals for other agencies and institutions.
  4. Publications and Scholarship: Contribute original research and writing to museum publications and external scholarly works. Develop educational content that supports exhibitions and collections, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity.
  5. Administrative and Operational Duties: Develop and manage collection work plans, budgets, and records in alignment with museum policies. Supervise and mentor interns, volunteers, and support staff to foster professional growth and ensure project success. Maintain professional affiliations and actively participate in scholarly organizations and committees.
  6. Communications and Media: Work with the communications team to provide accurate and compelling information about the collection and exhibitions to the media. Respond to public inquiries and foster community relationships that enhance the museum's reputation and impact.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Art History or foreign equiv degree

Min Experience: Two years' experience as Curator in Modern and Contemporary Latin American Art

Special Requirements: Fluent in Spanish or Portuguese (oral & written)

Telecommuter Benefit: Work from anywhere in US

Travel Requirement. Travel to anticipated and unanticipated worksites in U.S. & Internationally up to 20% of the time.

Salary: $75,000 - $105,000/year; Benefits: V Benefits: Medical/Dental/Vision. PTO. Life Ins., Retirement. Parental Leave. RTD pass.
