Position Summary:
This role is intended to provide leadership and hands-on execution related to process development, optimization, and investigation activities. Reporting to the Process Lifecycle Management (PLM) lead, this person will plan, coordinate, lead, and execute projects intended to improve manufacturing process performance (e.g. improved yield, reduced time, lower cost, improved reliability, etc.). It is expected that this person will have a strong focus on development/optimization projects that involve a laboratory component.

As such, this role will regularly be responsible for developing experimental designs, drafting study protocols, executing experiments, data analysis, and reporting of results. The person in this role may work a hybrid schedule; however, they must be able to commute to the Waltham, MA site and must be able to be on-site as study execution requires.

In addition to owning and leading process development and optimization projects, this role will complement the rest of the MSAT team by providing an additional level of technical support during troubleshooting and investigations. This person will also support the Process Lifecycle Management (PLM) lead in developing and executing strategic plans for each of NHSc's pharmaceutical products.

Key Responsibilities:
* Serve as a process SME for NHSc products and manufacturing processes, providing troubleshooting and investigational support as needed. Particularly, this person should support investigations by supporting hypotheses development and designing and executing experiments to test hypotheses..
* Support the Process Lifecycle Management lead in planning and executing project work needed to continually improve NHSc processes and products and support business targets.
* Lead process development and optimization projects intended to improve process performance and reduce cost.
* Write and execute and/or coordinate execution of experimental plans and protocols.
* Support laboratory management, including specifying/procuring equipment, collaborating with the FEV (facilities, engineering, and validation) team to ensure calibrations are performed, and ensure needed laboratory supplies are available for planned work.

Experience and Education Requirements:
* B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or similar field minimum. Master's degree or Ph.D. is preferred.
* Experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry in relevant role(s) (e.g. process development, technical operations / MSAT, manufacturing, and Validation).
* Minimum 8 years with a B.S. or 6 years with a Master's Degree or 4 years with a Ph.D.
* Experience developing and executing scaled-down process experiments in support of a commercial manufacturing process and/or as part of new process development. Experience with purification unit operations (e.g. normal filtration, TFF, centrifugation, nanofiltration) is preferred. Formulation development experience is a bonus.
* GMP manufacturing experience (either direct execution or as functional support); familiarity with deviation management, change control, and process troubleshooting. Experience leading structured problem solving in a team environment is preferred.
* Experience with authoring and reviewing technical content in support of process validation and/or regulatory filings such as IND, BLA, PAS is preferred.
* Demonstrated ability to be resilient and pragmatic in the face of change.
* Strong technical writing ability and verbal communication skills, allowing for effective communication both within technical documents and during personal interactions at multiple levels within the organization.
* Ability to collaborate and build positive productive relationships with team members and stakeholders across the organization.
* Skilled in data analysis; able to organize and analyze experimental data to yield meaningful conclusions. Familiarity with statistical analysis methods/software preferred. #LI-SF1

The approximate pay range for this position is $110,000.00 to $120,000.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.
