The Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) whose mission is to enhance the fiscal and financial stability, accountability and integrity of the Government of the District of Columbia is in search of a Collections Representative. This position is located in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), Office of Finance and Treasury (OFT), Central Collections Unit (CCU). The incumbent is responsible for providing information, documentation, and researching non-tax debts to District government agencies, debtors, and contractors.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Interacting with delinquent debtors on the telephone and face-to-face to discuss delinquent debts owed to the District government, and case resolution based on CCU policies and procedures.
  • Inputting and documenting actions within the collections system; interpreting and applying methods and guidelines related to the collection of fees, fines, and aggregate debt liabilities.
  • Informing and advising debtors of options available to repay and resolve debt.
  • Researching various resources to assist debtors and the CCU in determining assets and sources of repayment.
  • Receiving incoming and making outbound contact with vendors, debtors, internal agencies, or representatives that can assist with resolving debt issues and account discrepancies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications: One (1) year of general work experience performing duties related to providing customer service in an office setting; and an additional (1) one year of specialized work experience performing debt collection, negotiating and establishing various payment plan options i.e., installment agreements, case settlements, payroll deduction agreements/garnishments; as well as, conducting financial transactions. Call center experience is highly desirable.
