Lead Underwriter Job Family Grouping: Underwriting Job Family: Global Specialty A&H (North America) How does this role contribute to our collective success?

The A&H Lead Underwriter will manage existing business as well as be expected to work with Business Development on new opportunities and existing risks. This individual will develop, review, evaluate and manage complex Accident & Health Specialty programs from Managing General Underwriters (MGUs). This includes assessing risk and setting underwriting parameters for MGUs/Program Managers including both rates and coverage levels contributing to the success of the Global Specialty P&L as well as the overall A&H P&L.

What will you do in this role?
  • Work closely with the A&H Business Development to develop and maintain producer/program relationships
  • Work closely with the A&H Underwriting Governance team to develop robust procedures and processes to ensure adherence to aggregate monitoring and regulatory requirements
  • Review and evaluate complex Accident and Health new business opportunities/programs and case submissions to determine risk acceptability and coverage levels.
  • Work closely with external MGUs/Program Managers to obtain additional required information in determining either our new or renewal position.
  • Work with Operations and Business Development to onboard new MGUs/Programs and/or modify existing MGUs/Programs
  • Work to achieve targeted loss ratios by maintaining underwriting discipline through the underwriting selection and renewal process
  • Participate in A&H Underwriting & Risk Committee meetings where required
  • Act as liaison between internal functional departments and external vendors
  • Handle special projects and assignments at the request of A&H leadership team
  • Ensure digital files are maintained per AXIS Insurance procedures including but not limited to proper documentation, structure and authorizations.

You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.

About You:

What you need to have:
  • Prior Accident & Health experience
  • Prior experience of working with and overseeing MGAs/MGUs or Program Managers
  • The ability to maintain and grow existing internal and external relationships while managing potentially conflicting priorities
  • The ability to make decisions when faced with ambiguity and changing priorities.
  • The ability to self-start own tasks and to independently lead projects
  • The ability to develop financial projections on prospective clients
  • The ability to build dashboards and data models using Power BI
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
What we prefer you to have:
  • Prior experience leading a team
  • Market Segment knowledge including but not limited to Leisure Travel, Sports, Leisure and Entertainment, First Responders and Volunteer Organizations and Occupational Accident/Non-Subscriber
  • Product knowledge including but not limited to Accident Medical Expense, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Out of Country Medical Insurance, Trip Cancellation/Interruption
  • The ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience at all levels, including Executive Leadership
  • The ability to create analysis from multiple data sets, including performing lookup functions, creating pivot tables and nested IF statements
Role Factors:

In this role, you will typically be required to attend the office 3/4 days per week, however, remote working arrangements may be considered in certain circumstances.

What we offer:

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of 195-260k USD. Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location.

In addition, you will be offered competitive target incentive compensation, with awards based on overall corporate and individual performance.
