About Salesforce

We're Salesforce, the Customer Company, inspiring the future of business with AI+ Data +CRM. Leading with our core values, we help companies across every industry blaze new trails and connect with customers in a whole new way. And, we empower you to be a Trailblazer, too - driving your performance and career growth, charting new paths, and improving the state of the world. If you believe in business as the greatest platform for change and in companies doing well and doing good - you've come to the right place.

At Salesforce, trust is our number one value-and the Customer Availability Products & Services (CAPS) team brings that to life. We develop the systems that keep our platform transparent, reliable, and accountable. From real-time status dashboards to event-driven analytics and intelligent tooling, we help customers understand exactly how our services and their services are performing-and why.

We're looking for a Lead Engineer who thrives on solving tough distributed systems challenges, has a passion for clean design, and is eager to mentor others while building technology that impacts millions. As we evolve our platform, we're also exploring how Generative AI and LLMs can enhance automation, diagnostics, and user experience across the Customer Implementation Health ecosystem.

About the Role

As a Lead Software Engineer (LMTS), you will play a critical role in leading technical execution, shaping product direction, and driving engineering excellence within the CAPS team. You'll set the technical direction for scalable systems, ensure operational readiness, and coach engineers to raise the bar. In addition to core engineering, you'll collaborate across engineering, product, and infrastructure teams-and play a key role in identifying where GenAI/LLMs can improve customer trust and where AI tools can accelerate developer productivity.

Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end development of high-impact features, from design through production

  • Shape the technical roadmap, contribute to architectural decisions, and ensure systems are scalable and maintainable.

  • Be hands-on in delivering clean, reliable code-while also guiding design reviews, technical planning, and quality standards.

  • Collaborate with product, design, and infrastructure teams to align on customer needs and priorities.

  • Proactively identify and resolve architectural and operational challenges, guiding the team through scalable solutions.

  • Identify opportunities to integrate LLMs into availability communications, insights, and analytics to improve user experience.

  • Champion best practices in testing, deployment, and observability.

  • Mentor engineers across levels and foster a culture of quality, performance, and trust.

  • Promote the use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to boost engineering efficiency and onboarding.

  • Represent the team in broader architecture discussions, reviews, and cross-org collaboration.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent industry experience.

  • 9+ years of software engineering experience, with a proven record of technical leadership and system delivery.

  • Deep expertise in one or more backend languages (e.g., Java, Python, Node) and experience with frontend frameworks (e.g., React).

  • Proficient with databases (SQL & NoSQL), caching, telemetry, and performance tuning.

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS), Docker/Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Proven track record of technical leadership, influencing cross-functional teams and mentoring other engineers.

  • Passionate about quality, performance, and continuous improvement-with a bias toward action.

  • Demonstrated ownership of complex systems in production, including leading on-call and support rotations.

Bonus Points
  • Experience with observability, telemetry, or incident management tools.

  • Familiarity with SLIs, SLOs, and service ownership practices.

  • Contributions to open-source projects or participation in tech talks/conferences.

  • Familiarity with GenAI and LLMs, especially in applying RAG, summarization, or classification to real-world workflows.

  • Experience using or championing AI developer tools (e.g., Cursor, Copilot, CodeWhisperer) to improve code quality or productivity.

Why Join Us

You'll be part of a team that deeply values customer trust, engineering rigor, and collaborative innovation. This is a rare opportunity to lead engineering excellence in a highly visible, mission-critical space-with direct impact on millions of Salesforce users. You'll also help pioneer AI-powered solutions that redefine how we deliver availability and transparency at scale.
