Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

The primary role of the Associate Director of STEM Outreach is to provide Project Lead The Way programing and support to the growing body of area schools (PK-12) in preparing more students for college and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM.) As an independent initiative of the UMKC School of Science and Engineering, the vision of the KC STEM Alliance is to see that a diverse, innovative and sustainable workforce becomes a reality. The Associate Director of STEM Outreach works in partnership with many schools and our own team members to support educational events for students, educators, administrative staff, and parents. This role reports directly to the Executive Director.

DUTIES

  • Develop and implement innovative events that strengthen student engagement in STEM while aligning with PLTW pathways
    • Parents, counselors, and additional PK-12 admin
  • Coordinate and enhance current PLTW support events to boost student participation
    • PLTW Kickoff, PLTW Showcase, Teacher Mentor Days, career exploration events, PLTW Coordinators' Meetings, etc
  • Manage projects, including coordination of data collection and program evaluation efforts in coordination with KC STEM Alliance leadership, staff, and evaluation team
  • Analyze data in collaboration with the ED to develop recommendations for improving efficiency and expanding support
  • Assist, develop, and cultivate relationships with government, education, professional organizations and industry partners to encourage their involvement in PLTW course offerings from PK-12
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations and stakeholders to coordinate STEM Education Grant and scholarship processes efficiently
  • Work strategically with Event Specialist to deliver event-specific items in partnership with the KC STEM Alliance executive director and the director of operations
  • Represent KC STEM Alliance with local, regional and national STEM organizations including PLTW and industry under the direction of KC STEM Alliance leadership and as funding allows
  • Assist in identifying participation and engagement strategies to increase access to STEM for students
  • Assist with Remake Learning Days and FIRST robotics, as needed
  • Attend and participate in regular team meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Possess knowledge of how KC STEM Alliance supports local education and local STEM ecosystem
  • Good understanding of the innerworkings of a district and an awareness of their schedule and cadence

  • A passion for creating STEM access for all students
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers, office productivity software, and common business computer technologies (e.g., Windows, Word, Excel, printers, copiers, and scanners), university data storage systems, listservs, and the like
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Ability to multitask to complete a wide variety of tasks and projects
  • Attention to detail to ensure tasks are completed thoroughly and correctly
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Flexibility to adjust to new strategies, procedures, and tasks as the organization evolves.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$60,000-$75,000 annual, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.

Monday - Friday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with weekends, evenings as needed
