About the Job

Tenure-track faculty members will be expected to:

  • Maintain an enthusiasm and ability to teach and advise across all degree programs.
  • Demonstrate a desire and plan to become an expert educator.
  • Demonstrate research productivity.
  • Participate in School of Nursing service and governance activities.
  • Consider opportunities for formal leadership in the School of Nursing and profession.

Hires will be made in accordance with the needs of the School. This position is a full-time, 9-month faculty appointment. In rare cases a 12-month appointment may be available based on specific programmatic needs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Earned research doctorate (PhD or equivalent).
  • Ability to meet criteria for appointment as a faculty member on the tenure track at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing.
  • Evidence of productivity in a defined area of research, such as research funding and/or publication record.
  • Evidence of teaching and/or mentoring experience.
  • For RNs, licensure in MN by start date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned research doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in nursing.
  • Post-doctoral experience.
  • Teaching and advising experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
  • External research funding.
  • Substantive research publication record.
  • Experience leading research teams.
  • Leadership within professional, practice, or academic settings.
About the Department

Founded in 1909 and recognized as the first nursing program established within a university, the University of Minnesota School of Nursing continues to lead the profession into the future. With a mission to generate knowledge and educate leaders to shape the future of nursing and advance health care to improve the health and wellbeing of all, the school and its research are addressing health issues and improving health. With nearly $6 million in National Institutes of Health awards to the School of Nursing and the Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality and Healing in 2019, the University of Minnesota rose to 10th in the latest ranking of NIH funding to schools of nursing.

The school is ranked among the top programs in nurse midwifery and nursing informatics, and it is internationally renowned for its efforts to improve health and health care through the use of big data. While robust scholarly inquiry is central to the School of Nursing's mission, it is enhanced by interprofessional collaboration with schools and colleges within the University and its health sciences schools comprised of pharmacy, medicine, public health, dentistry and veterinary medicine.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $77,000-$115,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
