Description
Summary: Provide comprehensive evidence based Medical Nutrition Therapy to outpatient services. Enforce state/federal/accreditation/licensure/certification rules and regulations at all times. This description is not intended to be a complete list of duties. Other related duties may be assigned. Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide services based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and other related criteria appropriate population in his/her assigned area
- Maintains required core competencies.
- Complies with set Policies and Procedures (i.e. name tag, dress code, parking, smoking, etc.)
- Develop, implement and maintain appropriate departmental and inner facility policies and procedures. Ensure that all clinical nutrition programs in the department are current, adequate and monitored.
- Coordinate the nutrition screening, assessment and education functions of outpatient Medical Nutrition Therapy. Ensure that age-specific competencies and methods for determining patient learning and comprehension are followed.
- Assure nutrition screening is completed according to facility policy/rules/accreditation requirements.
- Develop and conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments in a timely manner according to facility policy/rules/accreditation requirements.
- Interpret data and information based on age-specific criteria and analyze, address, document and establish treatments and monitoring as appropriate.
- Plan, organize, schedule, document and direct outpatient, individual and group patient and family education experiences. Use age-appropriate materials and methods for determining comprehension and potential for compliance.
- Conduct regular, frequent, ongoing meetings, in-services, and training sessions with department.
- Provide ongoing communication and team building with outpatient staff. Establish interfacility policies and procedures to improve care and services.
- Pursue ongoing knowledge and information on disease states to ensure that appropriate Medical Nutrition Therapy is implemented when indicated.
- Maintain standards for the safe and sanitary operation of the department.
- Conduct outpatient education sessions, as directed. Act as liaison with community groups to support the mission and vision of the facility.
- Speak, listen and write in a clear, positive and professional manner using interpersonal skills, good judgment and empathy.
- Plan, initiate and complete projects to support and market enhancements to the clinical nutrition program.
- Enforce patient/customer rights and confidentiality.
- Ensure that all local, state, federal, accreditation, certification and/or licensure rules and regulations are enforced at all times in the department.
- Assist in managing the flow of information and communication from other departments, patients/family, customers and staff.
- Assists in assurance HACCP guidelines are followed and documented.
- Assist in coordinating and maintaining facility PI and QI data
Requirements: Education
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor's of Science degree related to food, nutrition, or dietetics and registration from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Experience
- Two years of experience as a Dietitian preferred.
- Performs related responsibilities as assigned.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
- Current American Heart - Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
- Must hold current New Mexico Licensure
