General Information:

James Madison University Libraries seeks applicants for an Evening and Weekend Services Coordinator position to join the Library & Information Services (LIS) team and Access & User Services (AUS) department. Access & User Services (AUS) is a newly reorganized department comprised of three experienced teams -- Access & Delivery, Library & Information Services, and the Music Library.

The successful candidate will join a team dedicated to offering high-quality services to JMU and the local community. The position will help staff our two physical Ask the Library service points and support virtual services during evening and weekend hours. This position works to maintain a shared standard of service at all library service points and operating hours, as well as respond effectively to diverse user needs. This position also helps support the part-time and student employees in LIS. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position with benefits.

Normal work shifts for this position will align with later operations and closing procedures for our buildings. When classes are in session, a typical schedule would be Tuesday 11:30AM-8:30PM, Wednesday & Thursday 3:30PM-12:30AM, and Friday & Saturday 11:30AM-8:30PM. During Final Exams, summer, and intersession periods, work hours will shift earlier or later in alignment with operating hours. Therefore, some flexibility with work schedules is necessary to reflect the shifts in operations. Shifts will occur in both Rose Library and the JMU Libraries Express service locations; routine cross-campus travel is an expectation.As we prepare to reopen Carrier Library in Fall 2026, we anticipate the typical semester schedule would be Tuesday-Thursday 3:30PM-12:30AM, and Friday & Saturday 11:30AM-8:30PM.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Help oversee the provision of front-line library services for a broad and diverse group of users. Work service point shifts as a member of the LIS team and participate in cross-training within the department. Ensure that daily workflow reporting is complete and accurate.

Maintain an awareness of circulation processes and collections workflows. Support the use of the circulating collection, answer questions about materials circulated at the service points, and troubleshoot technology as appropriate.

Oversee a team of part-time and student employees during work shifts. Communicate clearly and effectively with employees, delegate tasks appropriately, and coordinate staffing coverage to fill vacant evening and weekend shifts. Provide guidance and support and serve as a means of quality control by communicating and enforcing standards of behavior and job performance to contribute to an inclusive and equitable work environment.

Actively coordinate with the other evening and weekend supervisors to report issues, give direction, and ensure that closing procedures and workflows are covered for Rose Library and Library Express locations on a daily basis.

Participate in organizational meetings to assist with coordination and planning of operations, as well as overall Libraries' culture.

Assist with additional projects and activities, as needed.

Additional considerations
Excellent supervisory skills, such as the ability to delegate effectively and to consistently uphold policies and standards of service across multiple service points.

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with both Windows and Mac operating systems.

Experience working in a higher education setting.

Knowledge of library services.
