Job Description:

As an Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Consultant at Southwest Airlines, you'll lead the charge in elevating our digital visibility by driving and executing a comprehensive SEO strategy across web and app platforms. Acting as the in-house SEO expert, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams-including Technology, Marketing, Paid Media, Brand, and Content-to optimize site structure, technical performance, and content for maximum discoverability and organic growth. You'll oversee day-to-day execution with agency partners, translate SEO insights into actionable improvements, and manage tools and reporting to deliver measurable, sustainable results. This is a high-impact role for someone passionate about search who's ready to help us "GO BIG" in SEO and make a meaningful difference in how Customers find and engage with Southwest online.

Responsibilities
  • Support SEO strategy and lead tactic execution for owned digital channels: help identify and prioritize short- and long-term opportunities for growth and improvement; manage output to ensure projects are completed efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Serve as an internal consultant on SEO best practices for content, technical structure, and user experience
  • Manage day-to-day SEO initiatives with internal Teams and agency partners; includes but is not limited to: initiating work and holding teams accountable for workflow execution, managing regular status calls, owning weekly status updates, managing project trackers
  • Initiate and manage agency audits to identify gaps, recommend solutions, and drive on-page and off-page optimizations
  • Drive technical SEO workflows with partners in Technology, including metadata, canonical tags, XML sitemaps, robots.txt, internal linking, and schema markup
  • Analyze complex data and provide clear, actionable insights to broader team, including leadership
  • Stay informed and proactively share industry updates from search engine algorithms, industry trends, and emerging SEO technologies
  • Advocate for SEO integration within digital projects and cross-team processes
  • Drive testing efforts to improve digital store engagement and conversions
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • In-depth understanding of search engine algorithms and ranking factors
  • Proficiency in both content optimization and technical SEO
  • Familiarity with mobile-first SEO, site architecture, and accessibility standards
  • Expertise in SEO and analytics tools such as Google Search Console, Adobe Analytics, SEMrush, Screaming Frog, BrightEdge, or equivalent
  • Understanding of CMS platforms like OpenText TeamSite
  • Skilled in mathematics, analytics, and problem solving
  • Strong storytelling and communication skills required to articulate complexities of organic search in a simplified and compelling manner to stakeholders
  • Ability to manage high volumes of work drive while prioritizing effectively and hitting promised deadlines
  • Ability to thrive in an environment that requires innovation and pioneering; experience initiating and applying new processes to drive workflow efficiencies and project completion
  • Ability to align SEO initiatives with broader marketing and business strategies
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to influence without authority
  • Comfortable leading projects independently and working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
    • Complex content and performance-driven digital environment
    • Organic search
    • Content strategy
    • Interplay between organic search and paid search
    • Digital store optimization
    • Working in or with enterprise-level organizations and/or digital agencies
    • Experience working in or with enterprise-level organizations and/or digital agencies
  • Preferred: Experience with SEO tools (Google Search Console, Semrush, Moz, Screaming Frog, etc.) and keyword research tools (Google Keyword Planner, Ubersuggest, AnswerThePublic, etc.)

  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job

  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

Pay & Benefits

  • Competitive market salary from $91,250 per year to $101,400 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
