Work Schedule
The preferred term for the internship is 11 months. Start date is flexible but preferred to occur on or before September 2, 2025. Interns are expected to work 35 hours per week. Most work hours will occur Monday - Friday between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM. Occasional weekend hours will be required. Hours may be adjusted based on the scheduled weekend events that require on-site staff. The official work schedule will be negotiated with the immediate supervisor.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Campus Recreation provides a variety of programs and services to meet the recreation/fitness/wellness needs of the university community. Campus Recreation maintains several facilities around campus to help students stay active. In addition to the Rams Head Recreation Center and the Student Recreation Center, there is an indoor and outdoor pool, a number of outdoor courts for tennis, basketball, volleyball and paddle tennis, and lighted fields for sport club practices/matches and team intramural sports. Students have about 50 sport clubs and more than 40 intramural sports for men's, women's, and co-rec teams. Campus Recreation has a unique dual reporting structure in which it reports to both Student Affairs and the Department of Exercise and Sport Science via the Campus Recreation.
Position Summary
The Member Services & Events Intern prioritizes the student's employment experience, working purposefully to ensure a quality experience for the patrons at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Facility Operations Intern aids in the following components of the student employment experience: operations and events, recruitment and selection, on-boarding, leadership development, assessment, and engagement. This position works as an integral and contributing member of the Campus Recreation Facility Operations Leadership Team.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Receive assignments and communicate with the Member Services & Event Coordinator, and as needed, the Facility Operations Coordinator and Facility Operations Intern.
* Assist the Member Services and Events Coordinator in supporting the execution of internal and external events and programs within Campus Recreation facilities, with an emphasis on nights and weekends.
* Support the scheduling, planning, and execution of Campus Recreation's internal and external events and programs
* Conduct daily inspections of facilities and report any issues related to facility conditions, equipment, or technology to the Facility Operations Coordinator.
* Serve as a resource to student staff, promoting a safe, inclusive, and accessible recreation environment for all patrons, guests, and students.
* Expected to facilitate a major campus event from request to invoicing
* Communicate and enforce expectations, policies, and facility use guidelines; recommend updates or improvements as necessary.
* Provide support to facility operations staff and ensure adherence to established policies and procedures throughout each shift.
* Maintain knowledge of program policies, procedures, and technology relevant to assigned facilities, ensuring all user groups comply with departmental, University, and state risk management and safety guidelines.
* Interact effectively with co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, event staff, vendors, sponsors, user groups, and patrons to facilitate smooth event production, logistics, and execution.
* Anticipate, recognize, and resolve complex issues involving students, recreation members, and guests.
* Participate in department staff meetings, committee assignments, and department-wide programs
* Utilize professional development opportunities in alignment with internship and career goals
* Conduct assessments to measure facility usage, learning outcomes with student employees, and other data to inform operations
* Teach at least 2 CPR/ AED and First Aid certification courses per year during 2025-2026 academic year upon completion of the Instructor's Course
* Perform additional duties as requested Facility Operations Team
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
-Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university.
* Experience in Recreation Management/Student Leadership.
* Familiarity with WhenToWork and Fusion.
* Flexible schedule that permits evening and weekend facility supervision.
* Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills, proven written and organization skills,
the ability to handle multiple tasks, and present creative ideas.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Basic First Aid, CPR and AED Certification through the American Red Cross, or the ability to obtain within 1 month from date of hire.
