Join the award-winning UW Odyssey Project, and make a difference in the life of a child! The UW Odyssey Project takes a whole family approach to breaking the cycle of generational poverty through access to education, giving adult and youth learners a voice, and increasing confidence through reading, writing, and speaking. Odyssey Junior serves children and grandchildren (ages 0- 17) of adult Odyssey learners three nights a week through a creative, student-centered,
humanities-focused approach. We are seeking diverse candidates with a passion for education to join our team. Evening availability a must. To learn more, visit our website: https://odyssey.wisc.edu/.

Instruction:
-Serve as lead teacher for Odyssey Junior classroom. Develop weekly lesson plans aligned with the core goals and curriculum of Odyssey Junior.
-Coordinate the teaching team, ensuring clear communication among all teachers and volunteers.
-Coordinate guest speakers and field trips to support the goals of Odyssey Junior.
-Create an inclusive classroom community to instill a sense of belonging for all students.
-Provide student material each month to the Junior Oracle designer.
-Attend monthly Odyssey Junior staff meetings.
-Report weekly to the Odyssey Junior Director to ensure clear communication across classrooms and broader Odyssey team.

Family Communication:
-Establish clear lines of communication with families. Communicate specifically about:
a. Completion of all required paperwork for registration.
b. Transportation and safety issues.
c. Goals and objectives of Odyssey Junior.
d. Issues including attendance, behavior, health, etc.
e. Pursuit of enrichment or pre-college opportunities following Odyssey Junior.
f. Notice of special guests or field trips.

Administration:
-Work with families to complete all relevant program registration paperwork.
-Ensure implementation of the UW Pre-College handbook policies, procedures, and guidelines.
-Maintain weekly lesson plans and attendance in accordance with evaluation procedures, and submit to Director of Odyssey Junior.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Evaluates individualized and developmental educational plans for children in collaboration with other stakeholders, as needed
  • Maintains and documents effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to relay pertinent information and provide updates of child activities per established guidelines and regulations
  • Plans and facilitates classroom programming and schedules daily classroom activities for an early childhood education facility according to established curriculums
  • Maintains the safety and physical well-being of children in a designated classroom

Compensation:

$30.000 HOURLY

Qualifications:

- =Experience teaching in a K-12 classroom, daycare, or afterschool programming/enrichment course
-Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
-Experience developing curriculum, forming partnerships, and managing relationships with families and
community partners
-Experience working with children from diverse ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds
-Experience leading a teaching team or teaching on a diverse team
-Demonstrated knowledge of literacy best practices, culturally-relevant teaching, and trauma informed care

Education:

Bachelor or Associate degree in Education preferred
