Position Summary

The Southwest Environmental Finance Center (Southwest EFC) within UNM's Center for Water and the Environment is searching for a Digital Support Specialist and Trainer to support and expand our work with water and wastewater systems across the United States. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our web presence, maintaining and creating innovative digital tools to support our awards, and delivering training on emerging technologies such as AI and Cybersecurity and how these technologies could be applied to water and wastewater utilities. This position requires advanced Wordpress knowledge and web technology skills. This position has growth potential to work with water and wastewater systems to deploy new technologies and electronic approaches in various ways to assist systems (e.g., AI).

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Uses discretionary judgement to maintain and enhance Southwest EFC websites which serve as key information hubs for the Environmental Finance Center Network's work.
  • Develop digital applications that assist small systems with compliance, operations, and management. Digital applications must align with grant-funded deliverables. Provide input to the Director and Project Managers regarding potential future digital applications that may be included in proposals.
  • Maintains and assists in developing modifications to enhance functionality for current digital applications; creates and updates documentation for applications and may provide training to users on new or changed processes.
  • Design and deliver training-both in-person and virtual-on emerging technologies for water, wastewater, and/or stormwater utilities. Training content may be developed in collaboration with other staff or created independently based on the candidate's expertise. The candidate may train in conjunction with Southwest EFC staff initially and for a specified period of time depending on the skill level and comfort of the chosen candidate.
  • Applies and troubleshoots vendor supplied upgrades.
  • Provides support and problem resolution for website and applications.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology, programming skills, hardware, and applications. Participates in professional development activities as appropriate.
  • Assists SW EFC staff with technology related issues.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 6 months of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of Wordpress, HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, Java, etc.
  • Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence or ability to learn more about it and its particular application to the field of drinking water and wastewater.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Skilled in developing and delivering presentations to a wide range of audiences.
  • Highly organized and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable with public speaking or willingness to
    become comfortable.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision after an
    initial training period.
  • Willing to be part of a team and work collaboratively
    with various staff from the SW EFC, the university, the SWEFC
    collaborators, community members, and water/wastewater system personnel.
