GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the guidance of the doctor, the Lead Vision Therapy Technician develops and/or improves visual skills and abilities; improves visual comfort, ease, and efficiency; and changes visual processing or interpretation of visual information. Provides therapy to patients with visual impairments to improve their functioning in daily life activities. May train patients in activities such as computer use, communication skills, or home management skills.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implements vision therapy procedures.
- Explains therapy expectations with parents, doctors, and patients to successfully plan sessions.
- Documents therapy sessions and plans exercises for future visits based on guidance from the doctor.
- Teaches patients (and/or parents/guardians) the activities that either develop or improve a visual skill and visual processing.
- Works one on one with individuals to improve visual function using non-surgical activities.
- Demonstrates exercises to help a patient regain eye function after a surgical or non-surgical procedure.
- Provides home activities and feedback to patients (and/or parents/guardians) at the end of each session.
- Collects and documents patient results.
- Schedules future appointments with patients.
- Provides appropriate documentation for the doctor to monitor patient progress.
- Maintains vision therapy equipment, documentation and supplies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and fun environment for therapy to take place.
- Trains, coaches and assists peers on Vision Therapy techniques, as needed.
- Other duties assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
- 1+ years of office experience in a healthcare setting
- Prior vision therapy experience
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written, listening, presentation) with ability to exercise patience and connect with children and adults
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented with ability to multitask
- Proven ability to identify issues and solve problems
- Familiarity with exam software and optometric equipment
- Must enjoy working with people of all ages and demographics with an ability to demonstrate patience and empathy
- Demonstrated coaching skills, motivational skills and other behavior strategies that encourage activation and behavior change
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified Optometric Vision Therapist (COVT)
- Experience working in multiple doctor practices
Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills and local minimum wage requirements.
