Milton Hershey School (MHS) is one of the world's premier pre-K through 12th grade private schools, providing a cost-free home and top-tier education to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Founded in 1909 by Milton and Catherine Hershey, MHS is fully endowed, ensuring every student has the resources to thrive. With over 12,000 empowered graduates and approximately 2,200 current students, MHS continues to expand its mission to serve more youth.

Milton Hershey School (MHS) is seeking a College & Career Counselor to start in August of 2025. The College & Career Counselors at Milton Hershey School play a very unique role in the lives of our students. Because MHS's student population is entirely from disadvantaged settings and because one of MHS's founding principles is career readiness, the Counselors take a very comprehensive approach to their work that is unlike most other high schools. That includes a counselor who:




  • Provides individual and group guidance counseling sessions for students to develop post-graduation career plans.
  • Monitors student academic & behavioral performance and advises accordingly.
  • Conducts assessments and classroom lessons with students to assist them in identifying interests and skills as it aligns with career preparation.
  • Advises students so they plan appropriate course work within their chosen career pathway to ensure career readiness.
  • Facilitates authentic work experiences for students and partners with other MHS staff to ensure students shadow, intern and/or hold jobs.
  • Coordination and facilitation of state and national standardized exams
  • Guides students in post-secondary planning for employment, trade schools, certificate programs, and/or post-secondary education options.
  • Consults with MHS's Scholarship program to ensure MHS students plans align w/ their anticipated financial resources.
  • Advises and guides students in all aspects of post-secondary professional planning to ensure each graduates with readiness for professional success.
  • Develops knowledge of, and relationships with, colleges and other post-secondary institutions to ensure current and thorough knowledge base for exceptional student advisement.
  • Plans, conducts, and debriefs trips to post-secondary institutions for student tours to aid students in decision-making.
  • Supports students in completing college applications, FASFA forms and other affiliated documents.
  • Plans and executes special events, as needed.
  • Works days outside the school week at various points in the year. Achievement of these goals with students requires extensive availability to each for personalize planning, as well as extensive collaboration with other campus staff who also work with the students to prepare them for life. Qualifications

  • Master's degree in School Counseling.
  • At least 3 years in a School Counseling/College and Career Counseling role, preferably working with students from disadvantaged settings.
  • A demonstrated ability to inspire & guide youth, and a demonstrated high degree of commitment to success for each and every student.
  • Experience with SIS (Student Information Systems), such as Infinite Campus or PowerSchool
  • Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care and corresponding response strategies
  • Proficient with computer software including Microsoft and Google applications
  • Experience using LMS such as Canvas, Schoology, Google Classroom
  • Demonstrated skills in collaboration and successful teamwork.
  • Experience facilitating standardized exams and analyzing test data
  • Exceptional skills in time-management, organization and multi-tasking.
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal, written and platform.
  • A pro-active problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • A willingness to participate in and lead extra-curricular activities for students.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity as all MHS staff are considered to be role models for students.
  • This is an in-person on-campus role. Virtual work is only conducted when weather or other factors require such.
