Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. This position may be eligible for telework in alignment with the currently approved School of Professional Studies Telework Plan once fully trained and at the discretion of leadership.
Pay Rate $26.00 per hour
Minimum Experience/Education

  • Masters degree
  • 1-2 years of experience in academic advising, student services and/or higher education administration
  • Demonstration of ability to establish rapport with individuals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail, especially routine numerical tasks
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong ability to navigate and utilize university and advising resources


Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

  • Knowledge of advising technologies and data systems used for student tracking and intervention
  • Experience working with online or post-traditional student populations
  • Proficiency in student information systems and data management platforms used for admissions or registration
  • Desire to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment


Duties and Responsibilities
This temporary position supports the BS in Professional Studies undergraduate program by serving as the primary academic advisor for a caseload of approximately 150-200 students. The advisor provides one-on-one, group, and "just-in-time" advising sessions, manages a proactive Care Network communication plan, and maintains accurate records in advising systems to support timely interventions. The role also includes participation in recruitment, orientation, and professional development activities. Additionally, the position serves as the backup admissions processor for Charlotte Online undergraduate students, reviewing and making decisions on 4-8 applications per day within a 2-3 week turnaround. Responsibilities include ensuring application accuracy and compliance, following up on missing materials or academic/professional gaps, coordinating with enrollment and student services, and maintaining reporting for oversight by the Director:

  • Serve as the primary academic advisor for the BS in Professional Studies undergraduate program.
  • Carry a caseload of around 150-200 students
  • Host virtual one-on-one appointments, group sessions and "just-in-time" advising sessions for PROS students
  • Respond promptly to student inquiries received via email and phone
  • Manage a comprehensive Care Network communication plan for assigned students to ensure timely and effective interventions.
  • Utilize advising systems to track and intervene with students, maintaining accurate notes and records on student progress.
  • Participate in recruitment and orientation events to engage prospective students.
  • Attend professional development events to stay current with academic advising best practices.
  • Serve as the backup admissions processor for Charlotte Online undergraduate applicants
  • Effectively decision 4-8 applications per day in a timely manner with a 2-3 week minimum turnaround time
  • Ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness with each application resulting in minimal errors and returned applications
  • Follow up with students as needed to satisfy academic/professional gap periods and missing transcripts
  • Communicate with enrollment and student services about students who may need to reapply for a different program
  • Maintain reporting to allow for oversight from Director



Other Work/Responsibilities

  • Participate in team and 1:1 meetings
  • Collaborate with the admissions processor to ensure timely review and decisioning of applications, maintaining a minimal processing queue
  • Ensure the BS in Professional Studies students are advised in a timely manner and adjust availability as needed
  • A criminal background check is required for this assignment.
  • Please submit 2 references, both are required from a current or previous supervisor.
  • Must live within a commutable distance to campus.
  • This position may be eligible for telework in alignment with the currently approved School of Professional Studies Telework Plan once fully trained and at the discretion of leadership.
  • This position will be required to travel between main campus and The Dubois Center located in Charlotte's Center City.
