Information Services Assistant

Primary Function: Serves as the lead for a smoothly functioning Library Circulation and Testing Center Desk, at the Bethlehem campus, assisting in the overall operation of the library, which is open 7 days a week, during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Responsibilities: (1) Perform Circulation Desk and Testing Center functions: (a) responsible for all activities related to loaning of materials and equipment; (b) processes overdue notices and bills; (c) administers NCC tests/exams, tests/exams for testing companies, and outside institution tests/exams; (d) maintains confidential patron records and test files; (2) Interlibrary loan (ILL): (a) receives and processes interlibrary loan requests from patrons or other libraries; (b) fulfills requests from other libraries by locating, preparing, and shipping materials; (c) communicates with borrowing or lending institutions to coordinate requests, renewals, and returns; (3) Supervises Bethlehem library stack maintenance: (a) communicates with staff on reshelving, shelf reading and dusting, misshelved and damaged materials, and shifting stacks; (b) coordinates with Library Computer Technician on regular inventory; (4) General Responsibilities: (a) Helps patrons locate and access physical and digital library materials; (b) provides basic reference assistance; (c) offers basic technical support for public computers, Wi-Fi, printers, copiers, and other library equipment; (d) monitors compliance with library policies and procedures; (e) ensures accessibility for patrons with special needs; (f) maintains an orderly and welcoming appearance throughout the library; (5) Library student workers: (a) in consultation with the Library Project Coordinator and Library Computer Technician, hires, trains, schedules, and supervises student workers; (6) Other duties: (a) attends training sessions or workshops as assigned to enhance skills; (b) special projects as assigned.

Organizational Relationships: (1) Reports to the Director, Library Services for assigned responsibilities. (2) Collaborates cooperatively with members of other departments and the College community at large. (3) Relates individual and organization's role to College mission and goals.

Performance Standards: Performance in this position is considered satisfactory when: (1) Mutually agreed upon objectives have been attained within specified time frame. (2) Responsibilities of the position have been conducted at a level consistent with performance objectives. (3) Effective cooperative relationships exist with other members of the Library staff, faculty, and administration.

Qualifications: (1) Education: Associate's degree required; Library Science coursework or LTA specialized diploma preferred. (2) Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: (a) excellent oral and written communication skills; (b) strong customer service skills; (c) technologically savvy, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems and tools, familiarity with databases, and proficiency in Microsoft Office; (d) highly accurate and detail oriented; (e) ability to maintain confidentiality; (f) ability to function independently, have flexibility, and work effectively with co-workers, students, and staff; (g) ability to function effectively as a member of a team; (h) ability to prioritize multiple tasks; (i) strong problem-solver. Experience: (1) Minimum of 1 year library experience required; academic library preferred; (2) test proctoring experience preferred.
