Job Summary
Under direction of the Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations, the Assistant Athletic Director for External Communications is responsible for project management and execution of the athletic department external communications, social media programs and digital brand. Writes, edits and project manages correspondence related to donors and fans. Develops united voice for department segmented by audience and intent. Develops overall social media strategy, social media governance, content strategy and the creation of plans to implement the strategy on an ongoing basis for the main UC Davis athletics social channels in addition to channels for our football, men's and women's basketball programs. Establish strong working relationships with internal partners and campus communicators across the University to align strategic communications objectives. Manage the digital media team consisting of the assistant director for creative services and two fellows focused on content creation. Manage a team of three full time athletic communications staff and one communications fellow integrating storytelling across web and social channels. Responsible for ongoing social and website performance monitoring, reporting, and tactical adjustments as necessary to meet objectives. - BS/BA degree in advertising, communications, marketing, public relations, or equivalent education and work experience
- Experience analyzing and reporting performance in various social media channels and making necessary adjustments and optimizations in order to meet stated objectives.
- Experience systematically monitoring conversations and trends in social media, assessing opportunities for, and threats to, the advancement of a brand's reputation.
- Experience using interpersonal skills to effectively develop relationships with internal stakeholders in order to develop a steady stream of inbound story ideas, coordinate projects as well as influence social media activities in other departments.
- Experience building communication plans, organizing projects and teams, and executing plans.
- Knowledge and understanding of social media channels and their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, youTube, Pinterest, Instagram, SnapChat, TikTok etc.), and how to best utilize each channel.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and adjust as priorities shift.
- Communication skills including strong verbal, writing, and editing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within an ecosystem of related social media channels.Experience maintaining an editorial calendar for multiple social media channels.
- Knowledge of and skill to understand emerging social media channels.General knowledge of digital audio and video recording equipment, experience operating such equipment and experience with digital audio and video editing software.
