General Description: Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President of Pharmacy, the Director of Pharmacy, is responsible for the overall operation of the hospital pharmacy departments for OU Medical Center and OU Edmond.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • The Director maintains direct oversight of the activities of the Department of Pharmacy as related to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Responsible for generating and implementing an operational plan with goals and objectives that are in alignment with the facilities' strategic goals; achieving and enhancing customer and employee satisfaction; and managing all fiscal, material, and human resources.
  • Maintains current knowledge of JCAHO, DEA, OBNDDC and Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy rules, regulations and standards.
  • Manages database for hospital information system related to provision of pharmacy and pharmacy related services.
  • Supervises staff and is responsible for hiring, counseling, evaluating and coaching staff.
  • Works closely with physicians and other health care professionals to ensure quality services.
  • May serve on committees and work with professional organizations and educational institutions to recruit and to stay current with changes in the technology.
  • Ensures that all safety requirements are met.
  • Serves in an Adjunct Faculty role for the OU School of Pharmacy.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an ACPE Accredited School of Pharmacy. A BS in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required.

Experience: Seven years of recent hospital/institutional experience with 5 to 7 years of progressive leadership experience in a Pharmacy setting required.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Licensed as a Doctor of Pharmacy (D.Ph.) by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy. Certificate as a preceptor by the Oklahoma Board of Pharmacy when eligible.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current pharmacy related rules, regulations, requirements and standards.
  • Must be highly proficient in the management skills of planning, controlling, coordinating and measuring departmental activities.
  • Knowledge of the use of personal protective equipment during the preparation of cytotoxic pharmaceuticals
  • Ability to achieve targeted results in a complex, interdisciplinary environment.
  • Problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to focus on service excellence and excellent customer service.
  • Skill in supervising staff.
